My impression was that of a lion as well, but I was leaning towards a Leo (lucky 7??). If you look very carefully in the playfair question at the end of the chapter, you might spot another Zodiac. There are also at least two birthstones as well, but what does it mean? Maybe it goes together with the picture somehow?
Back to Texas, Two by two.
Pretty clear on this one. Anyone wish to discuss the "must start at zero" clue?
This is not meant to be a hint, just a friendly reminder that there is errata(depending on which print of the book you have). The official errata is maintained at the end of the FAQ section on the main hunt website. It looks to me like the errata for chapter 6 is as follows:
Page 116 Q3 should end in a question mark.
Page 117 Q6 should read:
What historic state park in Key West has been named after a fort that has been used in the Civil War, the Spanish American War, WWI and WWII?
Page 117 Q8 The Atocha should be italicized
Things seem quiet in here. Must be everyone is focused on interpreting the clues. They have been interesting for this chapter. Be careful of being pulled into the seemingly straight-forward direction. Must reinterpret for what Ron is REALLY saying.![]()

Most of the clues so far are repeats of each other. Starting with zero is a bit challenging, otherwise we know to use a playfair cipher, go in reverse and have the password for the playfair.
Two to the power of 5 is 5x5 or ExE. Be careful which cipher tool you use for encoding/decoding double letters, as there is more ways than one to do it. The traditional way, and the method mentioned in the companion book encodes double letters with an X between them. The modern way is to shift down and the the right. For the record, the poem in the chapter uses the traditional method as well. I think one of the clues is also warning about such pitfall. It might be better to do them in pairs rather than cut/paste to avoid such issue.
I'm curious if we will have the same password for the entire chapter, or different password's for each half? The clue doesn't say this.....yet.
Still finding a ton of stuff every time I look at the book. I am pretty certain at this point that when/if the real solutions get published, we're going to find that there were HUNDREDS of clues and hints in the book. Now, pretty much all of them are vague and not very useful because it's nearly impossible to work out what goes with what, but it's fascinating to see what's actually in there.
