# Thread: Chapter 6 - Clues and Discussion

1. Lobster,
You forgot a cipher that doesn't exist except for this chapter.
Fairplay.

2. I hear the chirping of crickets every time I come to this site. No open discussions of recent clues? Can we stick a fork in TWGTH?

I'm with Lobster on this one. The clues have been so vague, that every clue opens up another 50 choices. The latest clue suggests we don't even use a playfair cipher at all....even though many other clues suggested so. So why bother trying if the method isn't actually fair after all...

... or maybe we are supposed to use decrypted poem text but still need to do some other shift... then Playfair is a must after all...

5. The clues hint at a reduction before a playfair.

6. You must shift first then place the letters 2 by 2 in the special 25 to get the final answer.
Fairplay is apparently a double cipher where you shift then use a playfair cipher with q into i and the phrase that pays as your keyword.
That is the easy part. Finding the starting points and moving in a circle is a bit more difficult.

7. The PB hint (if it is Paul Bunyon) should help us with where to start. but I am still lost as to where to get the string of letters on which to start the manipulations. Then of, course, what manipulations? I still think it is a Playfair. Also, I still have not deciphered "MOIJZGZHLPEFDH", but I sense that a lot of questors are having trouble with that clue.

8. I think I know what "numbers" to use in the first part of the puzzle.

What you're supposed to do with the numbers though with the "special 25" is beyond me though. That's if I've even got the right 25.

It certainly is easy to convert letters to numbers, we have been doing that since Chapter 1. Seems like the special 25 is a nod toward playfair, fairplay, or farlapiy and we are supposed to start at zero. But it all gets pretty messy in a hurry if we incorporate all the other clues, I am not sure how you can make this less difficult. Guess I will work on this tdy.

10. Since the only part of the text in chapter 6 that contain "numbers" would be dates, I would consider looking at the far ends where numbers also appear. And since the answer to one of these is "trilogy" and after having recalled where the solutions to chapter 4 and 5 were found, I would move toward those to find my solution.
