    Greetings, all.

I haven't worked on this for a while, but I very much plan on returning when my current conundrum concludes--The Thrill of the Chase--but I wanted to let you know I figured out a little something to pass along.

I'm still very much believing there's a single, underlying solution to all of this, and one of its rules is that one of its pieces is that there's always something missing in the middle that doesn't appear until the end--it's the missing letters at the ends of the solutions.

You're aware Chapter 5 had none, but there was something 'missing in the middle that appears at the end': The chapter 5 prize.

That eagle caused a lot of controversy. I now realize its choice was deliberate and part of the puzzle. Unlike the usual silver, this prize was GOLD and BRONZE. The 'silver' is what was 'missing in the middle' and it certainly doesn't appear until the end.

You'll need the clue for the Golden Eagle puzzle when you revisit all these chapters. The PRIZE is what fulfilled the qualifications--it becomes a ZIPPER and finally ZIP.

'ZIP' was the letters missing at the end of chapter 5--there weren't any. But you'll need that three-letter word when you return to chapter 5 for the Golden Eagle.

    Keep the faith,

    Doc

Steps? You mean like he counted them? "Exactly." Nadine is ahead of me but I can see her lips moving as she counts off each treacherous step down.
    ...
How many steps so far? I ask.
    ..
After an eternity passes, she says, "Time to move."
    Numb I saw, "How far?"
    "Not far."
Far must mean pretty darn far. You should try travelling behind the diesel spewing sermi truck some time. It's loads of fun

    Very quiet on this chapter.
The latter half is more important than the first half.
    Any discussion?

Dunno. Thought i was getting somewhat close but without any clear validators it is like trying to sort colored beads in the dark.

On a positive note the price of gold has been soaring, which is good for Ron and the hunt.

In 1622, a man of God and a Caribbean slave are thrown together on an ill-fated ship loaded down with Spanish wealth. Three and a half centuries later, an American treasure hunter following clues left by the sole survivor discovers both the remains of the ship and a mysterious object pointing to yet another New World trove that has been lost to history...
The Margarita had run aground in fairly shallow water, and so Spain was able to salvage about half of its cargo over the next few years, but the Atocha was never located: it had sunk to a depth of around 50 feet, and subsequent storms ultimately dispersed its wreckage over an area more than seven miles long.
Not sure, but half sure feels like 6, as in chapter 6 and half the book?

It sunk 50 feet and half of that is 25. Five to the power of two.
    Sound familiar?

This board is DOA. Anyone truly working on this one any more?

I still working it, but apparently my great solutions haven't been so great.

I think I've worked out where alpha starts... and think I've narrowed down the method to 2 possibilities. Omega is much trickier though because all of the FB clues (and clues in the book) keep suggesting different locations. I understand that most of those clues are herrings/misdirection, but determining what is real and what is not just isn't doable.

The clues for this chapter have actually seemed better to me than some of the past chapters. The clues for this chapter have largely been pointing at the original clues in the book for this chapter, which is cool. I'm pretty sure at this point I can accurately identify a good number of the intended clues for this chapter in the book across all 12 chapters.

The real difficulty is working out (a) what each of these clues/hints mean as applied to finding 20 key orderings and (b) which of them are real and which are misdirection. (a) is incredibly difficult, (b) is impossible.

I actually really enjoy this hunt. It is so incredibly difficult that nearly no one even sees that there is a hunt here, which I find quite fascinating. All of that wiping of foreheads, the references to scratches, hand shaking, coughing, references to tales and points and needles and yawns, etc is all in there for a reason. There are hidden references to movies throughout, hidden references to songs.

There are tangled webs of clues in here, so obscure and difficult to interpret that nearly no one even sees them as being clues let alone having any chance of deciphering them. There are validators, and things that appear to be validators but are just lies (and no way to really tell them apart).

Someone spent an amazing amount of time putting this together. The idea is really cool; it's just simply too difficult.

Still, I keep trying, because there remains a lot to be found in this book...

Here's a few freebies as applied to the C3 solution:

C3: "He balanced the pan on one hand and jauntily TIPPED HIS CAP at his mother as she marched toward him"

    TIPPED = a tip / a hint
    CAP = a capital letter

    The "tip" is "capital letters".

C3 clue in C11: "As I approach my childhood home, I feel sensations I do not often meet, sea-dog that I am: anxiety, and even excitement."

This is a hint for C3.omega. I'll leave it up to you to work out why

    C3 clue in C5: "'I need rum. I NEED MORE RUM!!! "

This is a hint for C3 cipher method. I'll leave it up to you to work out why

C5.Q15: "What is the name of the statue standing on top of the Texas state capital building?"

This is a C3 clue too. A little trickier though...

C3.intro: "and any remaining ore had to be extracted by labor- and capital-intensive means such as hydraulics,"

    capital intensive means indeed
