    Default Token placement

I don't have any physical scrolls yet, so maybe this is printed in the rules, but are there any guidelines as to where the tokens for the various scroll hunts can be placed? I know they have to be on public property, but would finding one ever involve digging, lifting anything, opening anything, climbing onto or into anything? Or do they have to be visible without any physical manipulation of the surrounding environment?

IIRC, no digging, climbing, etc... I think they are visible from at least one angle (without disturbing anything).

Also, our official rules are posted on our website.

The phrase "public place" is a little vague. Hypothetically speaking, could a coin be hidden in a public place to which the public does not have complete access or unsupervised access?

Guys, I'm still waiting for an answer on this one. Also, where does it say no digging, and the coin is visible from some angle? The official rules don't specify this.

    Thanks,

Sorry rd, thought I'd responded to this in my spree of replies the other night. ; )

Ok so public property means that you don't need any sort of badge or permission to be there other than that you're a citizen of the world. As to whether you need be ACCOMPANIED, then no, not to my knowledge. That doesn't mean there may not be supervision of some sort, but it does mean that you don't need to be escorted around.

We've said the NO DIGGING thing repeatedly, as well as "visible from some angle". It's not in the rules, since those're a general idea, as each hunt will have slightly differing wording to them. It's hard to make rules that can be specific to all hunts when each one is different and in a new place. So I'm not sure of the post titles, but maybe someone here can help me out, as to where we first stated the NO DIGGING and Visibility clauses. Though we get people digging anyway... even when we tell them ourselves they don't need to. So we've been really harping on that part since day one, in numerous places on this forum and whenever we appear in newspapers, articles, or on broadcast media. And it kinda goes hand in hand that if it's visible from an angle, you don't need to dig, right? ; )

Thanks for the clarification. Sorry for making you repeat yourself. Before I asked, I did a search on 'digging' and 'visible' but did not find any posts. Blame the search engine.

Well, got tanked up on some wine and almost posted all the places I have looked, searched, hunted... here in North Carolina. So instead, I am posting...COMING SOON.

You think about "is the coin still out here" constantly when you are out there looking...but woa, it is..or shall I say WAS fun... (except when you get food poisoning eating at a dinner down the street from a possible Gris Gris spot...da#@ed doll).

    On On

This horse should be glue by now, but I am beating it anyway...

Is it possible...I mean would it have been at all fathomable...was there a chance in all creation...was there a plausible maybe... that SQ could have put out any of the later two scrolls to the public and opened the hunt(s) without- and I want to stess this trying not to over-bold things- yes without having yet placed either of the two remaining coins in the actual percise location they had chosen?

Think about the logistics of placement. In hindsight it seems quite obvious that there is the potential for SQ to do all the research, build the puzzle/hunt and create the scrolls, and then begin to sell them without having actually placed the coin(s) in the chosen location. Do you think anyone out there could have possibly been working on the scroll(s) at any time when the coin(s) simply had not yet gotten to the location that was researched, planned for and set as the resting place? Try to forget if the coin is still there or not for if the location was specific enough (or possibly remote) then SQ would have to make a few trips to finally get it there. One for scouting. One for placement. Many for varification. And, assuming they were ever (or have ever) removed them. Just doesnt seem likely they would have say been out on a hike, had the coin in their pocket, spotted a good location, placed the coin, finished their hike and then went back and built a puzzle around it.

Unless, coins were placed in their own-back-yard of sorts ...i.e. GA coin in HF. Or, in conjuction with one of those "Cons" they frequent. Or, and this is my last thought on this, they(or simply Jason) are (WERE) very trusting in having a third party deliver the coin to location. Hmmm?

In other news a Question for Wilhouse? Could there have been an *inside person at the park where you found the ring? Someone to "watch over" it in a sense?

    * I have worked in Parks & Recreation and as an administrator and treating a hunt like a program, it is not at all a far fetched idea that someone would approach me and entrust me with such a task, especially if I were promised upfront park exposure, visitors, etc. etc.- In other words...promises with which we can assume never materialized.
