Default The Official Announcement for the Fall

    Ok, Folks!

This is an official update. Jason has been out with some pretty serious family issues, not the least of which is his new baby! My congrats go out to him on the newest addition to his family. I'll let him give you the details when he leaves Leslie's side to post. His daughter Josie crushed his laptop screen, so he's kinda unMobile for the moment.

We're aware that there have been a lot of annoyed people who feel like ScrollQuest is backing out on all these promises, and failing to hold up our end of the armchair treasure hunt community... and you're right to be annoyed. WE are annoyed, and now trying to fix all the problems in our system that've led to this kind of thing. We don't want to alienate you, our dearest friends, and certainly don't want to make it so newcomers are too wary of the beaurocracy to jump into the game. I would like to formally apologize to all you fine people who feel jipped, ignored, or confused by the lack of both information and assistance. We're not here to take your hard earned cash and fling it into the abyss with nothing given, we promise. We want to bring you the best and most interesting real life treasure hunting in the world and drag you all into the crazy logic and the exciting settings we ourselves live with daily. ; ) I know this is probably going to go as a drop in the bucket for some of you, and we respect you if you no longer have as much enthusiasm for these hunts as we all started with. I'd feel the same way.

We WILL have everything out, cleaned up, and shipped ASAP, if there is anything left meandering about (Ie: My versions of the "Idol of Xi" Scroll, attic prizes since the attic shut down). We FINALLY got the printer to send us non-buggered versions of that scroll (Can you believe that they sent us three entire shipments of mess ups? That's something like 30k scrolls, for your enlightenment.), and they've only now to be sent out. I am now going to rest my reputation on this. Always before, I was just the artist behind all this, with our frontman being on task for the rest. I now promise, on my own worth, that we WILL NOT let anything like this happen again. At the end of this email, I'll also give you an estimated update on the schedule for the next seasons, so we're all clear on where SQ stands and when everything we've talked about for the last few months will be done.

We still get all your emails, and if we HAVE an asnwer to any question, comment, grievance or problem... we try to answer as best we can. I can't speak for others in the company, but I know I respond post haste to all my messages, even if it's just to refer someone to the correct channel. The future of such great treasure hunts as we try to bring you all is entirely dependant on your goodwill, and we have slipped in keeping that up, I know. Again, we are making ground on the fixing of that kind of thing. Hence, for now, Ambrose' Attic has been put on hold, as you all must know. And we'll now have the quarterly hunts/articles in Pirates Magazine, without fail.

In Jason's last update, he talked about the "Order of the Obsidian Dagger", which is our next stand-alone Scroll. That's still good. As is "The Ambrose Archive: a ScrollQuest Compendium". More on them in the schedule below.

S&S: Since we began the Silver and Sapphire minihunt oh so many moons ago, to get people hunting and treasure-minded for the Guardian's Amulet, we had three great lucky winners solve and find the silver bullion coins hidden in a day's drive of Washington, DC. Then it stopped. We hid the last two clues for the last two prizes on our site, and yet... no one found them. Months went by. This baffled us, but we figured we'd let it sit until someone discovered the clues. That'd be the devious test of the hunters' knack for puzzles. But, I agree, it is just too well hidden. We'll be either releasing those clues, or some new ones to either THEIR location or the locations of the final prizes in the Silver & Sapphire hunt very soon (which, coincidentally, are a silver 1 troy ounce dubloon and a star sapphire). It's got to be solved, and we've let it get lost amid the other treasures we keep coming up with.

Easter Egg: Since I personally don't know anything about this hunt, I'll just say that I will get you some more info as soon as I can. And I'll work at getting this up to true tweleve involvement levels. ; )

And now, that schedule I promised you all:

Our deadline for the next Pirates Magazine article/hunt:
October 5th, meaning the magazine should be out the first week of November according to the publisher.

The Ambrose Archive: a SQ Compendium & $25k gold kruggerand puzzle:
I have all the PDF files here on my computer, ready to be printed. Printing will delay the book by a week or two, and so it will be out early October. This is contrary to Jason's aim for Sep 29, but babies don't listen to dates when they are born, so we're a bit behind due to new lives coming into the world. The wee one fortells piles of gold and treasure, though, so look out!

    Faery Magazine w/ ScrollQuest:
This is out now in Borders, B&N and other sundry booksellers.

Order of the Obsidian Dagger, Ambrose Estate National Hunt #4:
    To be Released - December 1st, 2006.

    Other hunts:
Spring Hunt to come sometime in March! Look for another romp through history with your favorite explorer, Algernon Emmery Ambrose. More hunts to follow on the usual 3-4 month schedule.

There is a BIGHUGECRAZY free hunt coming in October 2006, too. It's close! Before Hallowe'en, even. This one will ROCK your SOCKS. Just trust me on this. ; )

Shipment of Scrolls, Prizes, Release of Solves:
ASAP. Scrolls are finally in, so that is no issue; the prizes will be concurrently mailed; and the solves will be posted that haven't been posted when they're arranged to as to be easily followable by the masses. The GaGas have posted their solve. Now, if you can't follow it you'll have to ask them to explain, since it obviously makes sense in some way to the girls. Again: Good job, girls!

    Special edition Guardian's Amulet Scrolls:
We'll be printing up the number purchased as soon as the Archive is shipped.

If I've forgotten anything, forgive me... and don't hesitate to ask. ; )

Again, we've neglected our duty in a lot of areas, and we're done with that. No more missed puzzles, no more unshipped items. ScrollQuest will reearn any trust lost during these crazy times, and hopefully come out better than you could desire in all your wildest, bejeweled dreams. *thumbs up*

With all my renown and hope for amiable Questing,
    Evan Jensen
    ScrollQuest Art Director

Thanks for the update, Evan. We appreciate candor.

I'm disappointed about the delay in The Obsidian Dagger, mostly because it was going to be released on my Birthday, which I thought was cool. But, you do what you have to do, I guess.

Maybe I'll find a ring on my birthday.

    Cheers-
    Brady

We try to be as forward as possible, always. Sometimes, life just comes at you and spins ya 'round, throwing you into some lost corner of confusion. We're doing our best not to ever let that affect SQ again. : )

Also, when's your'e b'day man? Cause the Archive book comes out soon!

Not sayin', but I'll give you a little clue. (Turn around is fair play. )

Well, actually your clue led to Daylight savings Sunday the 29th... but yeah, we did have All Hallows planned. And then the BOOK hit us. Lordy. But, funny that, my brother's b'day is Halloween.

I bought (and was charged for) the Archive book thinking it was being released in Aug. Jason had posted this date. Then I was informed it was coming out on Sept. 29 th., which is my birthday by the way. Now Oct.!?!? My e-mail to S.Q. regarding which scrolls were included have been unanswered. So my question is... is there a way that I can get the scrolls that are included in the Archive sent to me NOW? Or are they printed in the body of the book? I was under the assumption that they were included in scroll form. I am trying to participate in Gris-gris and, since I have already paid, would love to have the scroll in my hands.

    Mmmm... mimi birthday cakes....

I'm actually surprised by how many people have the halloween birthdays. A few years back, I actually had 2 other friends with the same birthday to celebrate. I also have an uncle to share the birthday with.

Anyhow, to yank this thread back on subject:

What binding are you doing for the books? Is it PB, hard, spiral?
