...I just thought it interesting that these two- Abe and GP- drew immediate responses from SQ back then. In Abes defense, he did banter back and forth with me, a little on here and then through some PM's about some ideas that we had at the time. Seemed ligit but, could have been a good ploy? I dont know?

I am still trying to figure who this Lowedwn(sp) person was that sent me a strange and (what I thought) stupid email right around the time of the OBX -haha- rush- and said he sent it to others on here. Thought it was someone on here setting me up for something-(or this wierd guy at the library that kept trying to see my screen?)- because I never heard from anyone else about it and as far as I know nobody else got it. Or, I figured maybe the great Tweleve folks nipped it in the bud if it was some fluff?

Anyway, I can get off on a tangent of fun just looking into ideas on the "CON" spiracy Theory post but there is treasure out there to be hunted and found folks, even if it is simply on a Hash House Harriers(you'll have to look it up) run and the treasure be BEER that ye find.

    What what what?
I wasn't around for that but do you mean she pretended to be looking for the prize? Wow, I guess they needed to drum up interest. What was her user name? Lafitte

I have been trying to remember her username but it is not coming to me and the messages where we talked about it were edited a long time ago.

What I seem to recall is that according to her profile she was somewhere in Maine (although I could be wrong about it).

Does anyone remember this at all? It happened when we were talking about the mini-hunts in the DC area and Jason posted using her account (by mistake) about the problems SQ was having at the time with a certain book store that said that they had the scrolls in their inventory and according to SQ it wasn't true.

Since a careful read of the offical rules on the back of the scroll reveals they may withold the prizes indefinitely, I came up with a rule of my own. You may want to consider a similar rule for yourself.

Rusty's Official Rules for winning a ScrollQuest prize:

Before redeeming the coin, I require ScrollQuest to provide me with a signed and notorized appraisal of the value of the prize before I accept. Furthermore, this appriasal must come from a neutral 3rd party jeweler whom we both accept.

Not that these prizes even exist, but if they do, I would not want to get socked with a 1099 form from the IRS for an amount way above the real value.

Wow! Don't post for a while and you might find yourself suspect!

Personally, I have been going through money problems as well as working on finishing my degree (my last final is next week). Too busy and/or tired to stare at some scroll that I've written-off as lame at best and a swindle at worst.

As for my previous attempts at trying to glean the "real" value of these prizes, I never really personally stated my conclusions to those threads. The bottom line for me is, when it comes to turning your prize into cash, you are on your own. Deal with a big 1099 and hope to science you can convince someone that a doll stitched with a handful of gems bought at 1% value on E-bay is worth tens of thousands of dollars. Good luck.

Without even a glimmer of hope of a reward for real treasure, you start to stop yourself when reaching for that scroll and ask yourself, "What's the point?!?".

I commend you all who continue to fight the good fight, even though there are only two real possible outcomes. 1 - SQ turns around and awards real prizes accompanied by unicorn giggles and rainbow mood lighting. 2 - SQ and crew stonewall everyone, knowing that actual legal consequences are about as likely as outcome #1. My life is too hectic right now to start tilting at windmills, but if I were younger and had time for a crusade, I might be on the front lines with you. Justice is a worthy goal, even if it is an unlikely outcome.

P.S. My avatar is the standard of the king of Minas Tirith. I run a forum for fans of the works of Tolkien, but I hesitate to share the link for fear of tracking some of the mud here inside my home. Puzzling people like you should be able to figure it out anyway.

    Minas Tirith! Yes, of course!

Thanks for being a good sport, Abe.

Good to hear from you again Abe. However you look pretty young on that roller coaster! All in good fun. Lafitte
