I just stumbled on this whole thing and have some good ideas on image 11 and SLC. I am a lifelong SLC-er. I started to think what does SLC have that is prominent, isn't going anywhere, and would be a safe place to build a hunt around? The mormon church of course.
Think the temple downtown; it could be represented in the building on the box. Also the globe theme is obvious. The LDS church office building has a massive earth engraved/sculpted in the building (north side of building). That building is something permanent you can count on not going anywhere thus something to build around. The Saltair building was something else that struck me as being a possibility. For those thinking Boston...did anyone connect the globe theme with the Boston Globe? I hope there is still some energy left on this chase...I am sensing it is being written off. Anyone that wants to work the Utah/SLC angle let me know I would love to collaborate. I can do the leg work obviously. laterz |

I think Verse 7 goes with image 11 if this is SLC. The first few lines really describe Temple Square (the wall around the square, the famous flowered grounds, the temple has 3 steeples when looking at the front door--goole an image of Salt Lake Temple) . Also the reference to Twain might mean river. There is a creek that comes from the north and then cuts across towards Temple Square, the office building with the globe, disappearing underground. I assume giant post is maybe a flag pole? I guess I should look around some more downtown eh?

Hey Moscow. Thanks for reply.
The one part of SLC that hasn't changed though is Temple Square area. Here is my poor attempt to show how images in the painting could be symbolic of the buildings/architecture in and around the square. What do you think? http://picasaweb.google.com/m5dansie...07086916928850 |

Nice image! Not a poor attempt at all. Could you post a higher resolution version? I am having trouble seeing some of the important detail.

I think the images goes with verse 7. There are many clues in verse 7 that point to Temple Square area of Salt Lake (first 4 lines). Also the Twain reference might refer to a river, specifically the Jordan River, that flows North, a major river in the Salt Lake Valley. A river called City Creek feeds into the Jordan River and crosses through Temple Square (underground). City Creek comes down through an area called Memory Grove. Memory Grove is within walking distance of Temple Square. In Memory Grove is a monument that when you stand in the middle and look up into the sky looks a lot like the circular window in image 11. Near this monument is a giant flag pole.
Higher res of my first image analysis (I think Google well compress it though. I can try a large pixel size if you still can't read). http://picasaweb.google.com/m5dansie...28797109039778 Here is are images showing Memory Grove with the monument and flag pole nearby. (End of Verse 7 refers to large pole) http://picasaweb.google.com/m5dansie...28061263673138 http://picasaweb.google.com/m5dansie...30990138256930 Image showing monument when you look up through it. http://picasaweb.google.com/m5dansie...28062488278786 Memory Grove has been there forever. It is a very popular place and these monuments have been there for decades. Am I still stretching here? |

Sigh. Your images are uploaded at 772x900. Can you post them at something like 3000 pixels wide? Maybe use Image Shack?

Memory Grove was one of the places I kept going back to. Especially that memorial right at the front. I was convinced that it was the circle window. I would hazard a guess to say that if it was in Salt Lake, it would be in Memory Grove. Especially if the church office buildings were the starting point. You could totally walk from one to the other with clues.
Unfortunately there has been significant construction in the area since 1984, so some of the clues on the walk may be missing. I like the way the church office building matches the picture, however... Interesting. Rusty- I assume by interesting details you are looking for the reliefs on the side of the building: Here's one of the four: ![]() The reliefs are all similar, with the globe rotated a quarter turn on each of the four corners of the building. This was one of the better ones I could find on Flickr. I wonder if I can dig up my pictures from Memory Grove. I think I've still got them on my other computer. miyaka- if you go down to Mem Grove again, check out the pillars right as you are walking into the park. There are some bronze reliefs there featuring women. I couldn't get them to match the lady from #11, but maybe you'll see something I didn't.

Hey Moscow. I took the dog down to the grove to walk around this afternoon. I saw the pillars you are talking about. The left one had a woman that didn't match but the right one seemed a little closer; at least appeared young and had longer hair. I forgot the camera to take a picture though.
I have being trying to link this to verse 7; maybe this is a bad move since I dug around the post history and have not seen anyone else do think 7 goes with 11. Anyway, there is the tall flag pole right in front of the memorial that has the circle ring for the top (the one you mentioned you noticed). The lines at the end of verse 7 say a giant pole (the flag pole?) and then a giant step. Looking directly to the west of the flag pole are what they call the Steps to the Capitol. You may remember this is an initial set of wider, steep steps that then lead to two different trails that take you to the rim of the canyon by the Capitol. I was thinking maybe the Giant Step could be that first flight of steps or maybe the entire thing. Meaning the final resting place is at the top of the first flight or at the very top on the rim of the canyon. I didn't venture since my dog suffers from arthritis. I am heading down to pick up my car from Ken Garff tomorrow. I might go over and look again. My wife thinks I am bored. Ya maybe. Still Memory Grove is really pretty this time of the year. |

Check the date on those steps. If I remember right there is a sign there. I don't remember what the sign said though. I think that it was something about Gold Star Mothers and when the steps were built as a memorial for the fallen soldiers. I never did explore much on that side.
