    Default I'm Baaaaaaaaack!

My extended hiatus from puzzling is over! I just received my very good used copy of The Secret and cannot wait to get to cracking on this. I'm still waiting for Q4T to let me in so that I can do some delving of everyone's ideas. I have a few notions already myself but will need to read on to see if it's "been there done that" and if I can just skip on to getting the shirt.

Anyways, I hope to be very involved with this hunt for the foreseeable future.

I am focused on some other verses but when that focus shifts, you are my go-to gal for doing some Big Easy casque hunting.

The most persuasive argument for Verse 2 linking with New Orleans is the quote from Sarmiento's book: "Here is a sovereign people who built palaces to shelter their heads for a night!"

It speaks directly of the St. Charles Hotel in New Orleans.

"At the place where jewels abound"--there is an entire section of the city where the streets and parks are named after jewels.

    "Gnomes admire, fays delight"

Fays delight could be associated with Lafayette Square,
Gnomes admire? Don't know. What is a gnome? An earth spirit. What sorts of earth spirits are there? dwarves, alven, Indians (Native Americans) Leprechauns...there's a lot of interpretation that could be used here. One might say that there was a true meeting of the fair folk types in New Orleans--virtually the birthplace of the idea of "creole", and a melding of the the most famous ethnic groups: Acadians and Indian and French into Cajun! Maybe the gnomes admire the Cajuns? it would make a lot of sense to me.
New Orleans is truly a place where things meld and where "namesakes" abound along with the jewels.

I don't think there is too much doubt that verse 2 is the one for this city, and that it goes with Image 7. In fact, the boy's figure on the clock face is exactly--not just similar but exact!--the same as the boy's figure on the McDonogh statue in Lafayette Square.

I really think that's where the casque was buried. I understand however that there was quite extensive Katrina damage there--I don't know what sort of damage, but it may have rendered the casque unretrievable.

And something just occurred to me: "gnomes admire." Earth spirits admire. Gnomes are "little people." Children are LITTLE PEOPLE. It was the admiration of the children of New Orleans that caused the statue of McDonogh to be placed there in Lafayette Sq. in the first place. They even have a song about it:
    NO_McDonogh_Day

So "fays Delight" = LaFayette Square
and "gnomes Admire" = children admiring a great educator

To me this IS the 'a-ha' moment here. That casque is buried in Lafayette Square, near the McDonogh monument. Somewhere "in the middle of 21 from end to end", where there are "15 rows down to the ground." (wall? fence? steps? terraces? stories of a building? windows? streetcar stops?)

I have zero knowledge of this hunt, so excuse me, I just thought I'd drop in and say hi.

Seeing the "Gnomes admire, fays delight" line I want to say it strikes a myth/folk context perhaps inspired by something outside that realm or historically linked. If the object is to narrow it down to a specific instruction or location I'm getting several ideas.

Maybe Gnome is a piece of a sundial, the gnomon, which casts the shadow.
Maybe Fays Delight is a reference to Apples (Morgan le Fay history), in the case of admiration, "the apple of my eye" could be referring to a particular something that is discovered from a position of reference when taking two of three points to construct a parallelogram.

There must be some obscuring reason for not simply using "apple of my eye" if perhaps an apple tree or orchard is the goal.

(yes, I'm feeling sorta bored tonight, maybe I should get a hold of this book so I'd know what I'm talking about).

To me, it is one of teh greatest treasure hunt books...well, at least the 12 verses and tweleve pics. The rest, it could be fire starter for all I care...but those verses & pics are priceless.

I agree the verse with Sarmiento's qoute is most likely. Let me clarify. My a-ha moment hasn't hit because of the rest of the verse. However, I don't believe it is in Lafayette Square. And if it is there is no way to dig it up without getting arrested. Gnomes admire, Fay's delight could also refer to the deuling oaks in City Park. At the place where jewels abound could be the Museum or even the park itself. City Park is famous for it's oak trees. This would give us a starting point and counting 21 rows makes more sense. Just simple thoughts for today.
