    Default Roanoke Island

I am just curious if anyone has actually been to Roanoke Island to dig, I have this book for quite awhile but just found it again, I figured that all the treasures had long been found and was surprised to discover that they had not. I am pretty sure that the Roanoke Island treasure is either in the Elizabethan Gardens or right in between the gardens and fort Raleigh. I live quite a distance from there so getting there anytime soon would be tough. Does anyone else have any opinions on where this one is located?

Several have visited, none have dug. It's incredibly difficult to persuade people to dig anywhere, as they're too intimidated by the idea of making holes in a park.

One favourite location is the point on this map marked "Overlook with bench" which offers a view of the "wing" to the north, and a sign "where white is in colour with two maps" (one by White), but no-one has been able to decipher "Under that may be last touched or first seen standing".

    (Background notes here.)

Hello. Relatively new to this hunt. Having read the previous posts, I was wondering if anyone has explored the beach area directly behind the Elizabethan gardens. I agree that the first eight lines of Verse #11 put one at the entrance to the gardens. Here is a possible walkthrough from there:
After circle and square (a reference to the sunken garden, square shaped, circle in middle)
    In July and August
    A path beckons
(according to the garden’s website, flowers bloom at certain months of the year)
To mica and driftwood (the beach)
The water gate walk, just past the sunken garden, leads to the beach directly behind the gardens. Interested to know if this path has a higher number of flowers that blossom in July and August.

    Under that
    Which may be last touched
    Or first seen standing

In the beach area behind the gardens, there are wooden posts which extend offshore. Depending on the tide, more may be visible. It is possible that the first post closest to the garden could be the one which is “last touched” (during incoming tide) or “first seen standing” (outgoing tide). Also, the curved positioning of the wooden posts give a ‘scalloped’ appearance to the shore line in aerial imagery. This may be a possible visual confirmation to the armor seen at the fingers and arms in Image #3.

Was just curious if anyone had any thoughts or has explored this particular area.

The water gate area is a strong contender. People have visited the beach you mention but not dug as far as I'm aware. Part of the problem is that it's a protected area. A guy called Paul Kitchen took some photos which he uploaded in the "Water Front" section here...

morpheus -- that exact idea has been raised before (on Q4T). Unfortunately, as BJG noted, it's a federal crime to dig there. It is also highly unlikely that a loose casque buried that close to the ocean (under it, actually) would still be there 30 years later.
"...it may well be doubted whether human ingenuity can construct an enigma of the kind which human ingenuity may not, by proper application, resolve."
