    Angry March Roll Call

Let's check in! Please let us know if you are actively working the hunt, if you believe we will get the solution once the hunt is officially over and if you believe the hunt is solvable.

    Team Meaner Simikkles
    Not activley working the hunt
Do not believe we will receive the solution
    Do not believe hunt solvable

Reason: With all the brains working this hunt, you would think someone, somewhere, somehow would have solved it by now. How can ONE MAN create a puzzle no one else can solve??? Hoax?? Fraud??? Some people are saying it's been a sham from the first. Doubtful that MS would have risked the bad PR, but I also didn't think we would all be left hanging by our chinny chin-chins with no info when everything went kablooey either. Who knows?? Certainly not TEam MEaner SImikkles! We can only do our Simikkles things and hope for a better, brighter and DAR SOLVED tomorrow! Peace Out!
"We may not be first, but at least we are not last!" Meaner Simikkles RULE!

    Team Pianoman (singular)

Stopped working on this about three months after the bankruptcy announced.
Realized there was no collaboration between people anyways, so I would have to be one smart cookie to crack the whole thing alone.
Still monitor the forums for any potential ideas, (still none offered.)
Am disappointed that there are those still waiting for Clue 3 solutions and they may not get them. This probably means we are SOL for SOTAD answers as well.

It was fun overall. I got to meet some nice people, and some not so nice people.

    A) Still actively working on the hunt.
    B) I hope that we will receive the solution.
    C) I believe that portions of the hunt are solvable.

    Reasons:
    A)
It is cheaper than drinking and it keeps my brain more challenged than it would be
    otherwise.
    B)
I don't know what is gained by holding back the solutions.
    C)
I think that part of the problem might be that the solutions, even those for the lesser rings, are protected by puzzles which have multiple layers to be solved. I have followed apparent layers which are 3 and 4 layers deep, using input from both the main story and the BOS. All have ended in no joy, so far. They might just be long lessons, or I might be missing a concept I need to proceed. There might be a common concept, such as the redemption instructions, which were mentioned long ago. All we would need is a website asking a bunch of questions. It is possible that people have the answers, but don't know the questions. Does anyone know if the redemption instructions or website turn out to be real or imagined?

    Cheers,
    germinater.

Not actively working the hunt *Check*
Do not believe we will receive the solution *Check*
I still believe it is very solvable and that it will be solved, maybe not by the deadline.

After the hunt is over officially everyones ideas are going to come out like crazy.
And eventually someone will stumble across a solution.

Mike will never release the solution, at this point I think he is waiting for the official hunt to end to hear everyones solutions as am I.

He might even drop a few clues just to get things rolling again after the deadline. If he does so before the deadline the legal ramification could be extensive.

    SHECRAB (CEEKAY) here:
1.) Not actively working on hunt.
2.) Do not believe it's an active hunt anymore.
3.) Don't care if it IS an active hunt, either.
4.) I believe it's PARTIALLY solvable, but that the key information resides in a very bad printing job, and that because of it, there will be very little confirmable data recovered.

My opinion, as odd as it may be, is this: that the printing job that was done on the original run of books was bad enough to keep people from understanding the way the puzzle was to be solved. The first book was printed in a much less haphazard and error-free way, with care given to the positions of the characters, no "stolen" artwork, a careful and well-thought-out method for solution. And it was--wait for it--SOLVED. DA DAAAAAAA!!!

This book was not only rushed into print, it was rushed there without checking things that needed to be checked. The photoshopping is BAD. The story is horrendous. The puzzle is obscure, and utterly insane in parts. That means to me that it was a rush job that was not thoroughly thought out.

It's easy to see that there are threads of thought here--and that they possibly lead somewhere. It's easy to see that there are things that need to be followed to their (hopefully) logical conclusion. What is not easy to see, and now impossible to know for certain, is if those things are correct as printed in the book--or if they were MISprinted, not proofread properly, or not 'tested' for accuracy and ease of use. That is enough to make the puzzle "unsolvable as is."

It's my belief that because of this, the publisher would not recall the bad books and reprint them because it wasn't such a great seller to begin with. This led to lawsuits, bankruptcies, etc.---and the effective end of the whole mess.

After thinking about it for a very long time, I cannot imagine why Simon & Schuster would even bother suing Michael Stadther for such a pittance. Publishers lose money on all sorts of authors and don't sue them. Why him? Why did they continue to follow the legal ends available to them unless there was something we don't know--like that he demanded a new print run so they could finish this hunt?

I do know this: That in the world of publishing, the little guy is nobody. Stadther was a little guy--and we are even littler guys, we readers/solvers/buyers. We mean less than nothing to a giant company like S&S. There will not be a "revival" of this because they own it. I see absolutely NO reason, therefore, to whithhold anything.

Oh, and also: there were only FIVE rings ever made. The rest were not even manufactured, so there are only five prizes anyway. Not 100. And if Stadther was able to hang onto those assets (I'm betting he didn't) then he's not going to award them to anyone. They'll probably just cover the legal fees he incurred. The rings are probably not worth what he stated they were worth to begin with--if you had won, say, the red ring, you could opt for a 'cash substitution' of less than a THIRD the "appraised" value. So why bother jacking up the appraisal? The appraisal was probably based on availability at the time, of the likelihood that it might be won and become a collectible, and the market value of diamonds. As most of you know, the markets have changed considerably since 2006.

Since the whole bottom fell out of this, I don't think it's going to be any problem sharing anything. Anyone who wants any of my stuff is welcome to it.

well - does actively thinking about the hunt count - I have just been very busy lately - so haven't had book in hand for awhile
I will pull it out and work on it again when live is less harried!
I do think it is solvable though I give some credence to Shecrab's idea that the improper printing may make it a super challenge - but I do think it is solvable!
I think maybe right Stadther may not release the solve - ever - but I also think that yes - many more ideas will be shared when the deadline passes
that may generate the old kind of collaboration needed to get to the end -
I don't care about the prizes - I DO want to see the solve!
I didn't work Masquerade - but loved seeing and reading about it anyway! I read about many and enjoy the challenge
    I like to stay positive
and agreed cheaper than drinking and better for both mind and body - great entertainment!
and still great family oriented activity - even though my kids are getting older and not around much!

    Festergq:
    1) Not actively working on the hunt
    2) Doesn't think there will be a printed solution
    3) Thinks there are solvable puzzles that would have been redeemed for rings, but with over 121 pages and no telling what is actually a puzzle, with so many possible puzzles, finding the 5 needles in this haystack got old.

But I still believe the clues give all that is needed to solve the big puzzles. I believe the answers are in morse code, looking thru some pages, like the light spell, is needed to be done, forward and backward reading, removing symbols or letters, the way the dots did on the one HCB, and mirroring, all need to be done in some ways to get to a solution.

I just wish some that don't care about the rules anymore would "give up" some of their observations.

    Default Nope...

Not actively working on the hunt.
The Hunt is dead as far as the contest goes.
    It is solvable.

Have not worked on this in a long time, came back to see if anyone had a 'WOW' moment, sad that no one had that joy. I don't know, maybe this will become like THE SECRET where people will be working on it long into the future.

Not actively working on the hunt - I pull it out occasionally, then stash it away again in frustration.

I hope a solution will be made be public.

I would think that it is solveable, and I think the reason "all of the great minds" working on it haven't solved it yet, is that all of the wrong ideas cloud the right ones. Too much information muddies the mind, so I try to limit my time on the forums.

If anyone does solve this, I believe they will earn much admiration from a small group of puzzlers, but little else.

    not active or interested personally

I would like to see some well-deserving lurker stumble onto a solve, just because I root for the underdog...(see NCAA basketball tourney and the 15/16 seeds...lol)

also, I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the first hunt and the untold fortunes that winning the 4th highest valued jewel got me and my team

still crazy after all these years,
    pac
