Default Game over - Petition for a solution

The game is over. Let's all rally and petition Michael Stadther for the solution.

Don't you want to spend another three years trying to figure it out?
It is time. Time is it.

No solution for me, thank you. I've been working on The Golden Apple Tale for 28 years, and The Secret for about five years. It's better to just keep working on it and not give up and get the answer without finding it yourself.

    Another 3 years...

    I'm in lets do this.

The only thing that I want to know from Mike is how the Sepents/Dragons tie in to this book and the last book. They are always black and white drawings that just don't fit in and are never mentioned in either book that I recall.

It has just been eating me up for over 6 years now!

    A Tresures Trove
    Pg. 77
    Pg. 78
    Pg. 83

    Alchemist Dar
    Cover
    Pg. 75

Maybe, Mike just likes to draw these Serpent figures I don't know, but I really am curious.

I've never seen ATT, but in SOTAD, the serpents are the Pale Drophidians. They carry the Malic Hest through the sky after their brittle wings have broken. They are described in Chapter 2.

I believe the dragon in ATT represents Pook's hidden courage and loyalty, notable qualities of oriental dragons and perhaps some western ones. Several apparent clues in the book support this interpretation.

I assume this is also true for SOTAD, perhaps in addition to pale drophidians, but I have never looked closely there for support for either interpretation.

    Default I want the solution.

I want to know the answers to the puzzles in this book, because I am unable to figure them out myself and have been stuck for longer than is fun for me to continue striving to solve it.

For those people who want to remain working on solutions, there is no reason they cannot ignore any posts on here which offer the official solutions (or ignore the SOTAD page altogether), and ignore the fact that a book might come out detailing the answers. It is not like this will be so pervasive in the media that they will be forced to hear information they don't want to, or as though they run a serious risk of stumbling upon the answers unwantedly.

But the more people who say that they would like to "continue working on a solve", the more momentum there might be for someone in charge to say "ok. No published solve. We'll let you work on it indefinitely." And I want a solve, and not more endless waiting. This resolution would severely disappoint me. I waited 3 years until the End Date for a glimmer of hope that Mr. Stadther could maybe help us with his impossible puzzle that in 39 months no one (apparently) found a solve for even ONE RING. I know that there might be as many as 100 or so people still "working" periodically on this, but the odds that anyone EVER actually cracks all of the answers in the book (which would have been necessary to find the hardest rings) are very slim--even if in 2013 someone makes some lower-level breakthrough. Yawn.

Please, someone, start a petition. My personal feeling is that it will be irrelevant, since either Mr. Stadther stopped caring about what we think years ago, or he is permanently under court gag order to NEVER provide us any official new SOTAD information. And my evidence for this is the fact that we waited almost two years for a single new clue or piece of official news, or even a clarification as to whether the hunt was even still ACTIVE, or even a Hello from him, and a week after the End Date, he has still given no indication that he acknowledges that the hunt has officially ended. So whether he just stopped caring about this hunt and its participants before/during/after the bankruptcy hearing, or whether legally he cannot comment anymore since he physically no longer owns the rights to the answers, a petition will just be thrown away. But we should do it nonetheless, in case my inclination is wrong.

First off, I would love for a solve to be released in some way shape or form. As stated previously, people who want to keep working on the hunt can do so without peeking and the rest of us can be satisfied.

However, my suspicion is that MS cannot release any information on the solution for legal/contractual reasons. There's a good chance his original agreement with S&S included rights to S&S publishing the solution as well as the original book. If MS says anything, he'd probably get sued, and MS tends to err on the side of caution. (When I had my Treasure's Trove solution site up a few years back, I had some images from the book included to help understand dropcap maps. MS's lawyers had me remove them. I requested permission from MS directly and he informed me that he was no longer actually allowed to give that kind of permission as he had sold off the rights for some future derivative works and there could be an issue. Probably no issue, but like I said, erring on the side of caution. He was quite nice and prompt in his responses, so his current radio silence is a bit odd.)

S&S won't release a solution book as there simply isn't a financial incentive for them to do so at the moment, and they probably won't release an unofficial version (i.e. on a web-site or something) as a) they simply don't care and/or b) there is a small probability of a future financial incentive (i.e. someone creates an arm-chair treasure hunting compendium of the top 5-10 hunts and their solutions, which could be financially viable with either S&S as the publisher or licensing/selling the solution to the new author).

I think we all need to resolve ourselves to the fact that a solution will not be published or released in any way, short of someone actually determining it and posting it. As much as we may wish otherwise, this hunt has gone the way of the Secret and the Golden Apple. There will continue to be a small subset of people pounding this out, and hopefully they'll eventually uncover something, but I don't think any proactive nagging by the masses will make a difference (unless someone who really wants to know is willing to write a really phat check!)

    Cheers,
    Steve

    Hello

I have read a lot of the threads and comments on this hunt and I have seen a lot of people "Claim" to have a solve. So my question is, why don't those people post what they know or have solved if anything? I mean the hunt is over right? so where are all those claimed solves? Also--does it actually say that the hunt will be over by 12/31/09? if so then doesn't the author have to reveal the solution? I'm just saying..

I can fully understand that people want resolution on this. Some sense of closure. My view, however, is that there are few mysteries left in the world, and it would be a shame to do away with one that remains. The point of continuing to work on it isn't to come about the answer the hard way. If the answer is released, virtually nobody in the world will simply ignore the solution and continue to work. This was a masterfully made hunt, if poorly executed, and if for no other reason than that, I think it deserves to be solved.
    -my two cents-
