Makes it sound like the HCB isn't an elaborate code at all, but instead is a visual puzzle. You have to fold the pages a certain way and then hold it up to a light so that actual words are formed from the symbols. But surely someone has tried this?

or stick a pin in the middle, spin it around and see what kind of persistence-of-vision vision appears.

I donít know about everybody else, but I get a warm and fuzzy feeling inside every time Stadther gives us the finger.

Since I live in California and bought the book in a book store in Folsom, Ca., and the state of California was not one of the states excluded in the rules section of the book, I assume that any contest of this nature would abide by any rules and regulations the state of California may have governing contests of this nature.

Those rules can be found here.

Rules For Operation of Contests and Sweepstakes: Legal Guide U-3 - California Department Of Consumer Affairs

    July 2008

    RULES FOR OPERATION OF CONTESTS
(Business and Professions Code sections 17539-17539.3, 17539.35)

Hereís a few selected sentences from those rules.

The opportunity to win a prize cannot be conditioned on a minimum number of entries or contest participants.

(The costs for the contest werenít being met due to a shortage of contestants, so lets file for bankruptcy.)

Upon request by any participant, a list of names of all winners, prizes, and correct (and winning) solutions must be provided.

(I have no idea how to contact Stadther, but apparently cthree does, so Iíd like cthree to pass along my request for the solution to The Secrets of the Alchemist Dar.)

The operator of a contest must keep detailed records of a contest for at least two years after all the prizes are awarded.

(All he has to do, is stall us for two years and heís off the hook, I guess.)

Yep someone did. I did. I even placed the thing on a turntable and watched it. NOTHING.

Did anyone ever try mirroring each symbol or each line then placing it on top of the not mirrored one?

I don't want to or have the time to mess with it, just wondering.

No question is a stupid question if you don't
know the answer. Stupid is not asking.

That's the problem. If these symbols have to be physically manipulated, no one is going to take the time to do it anymore. His new comments have given me a new idea.

The book is all about eclipses. There are supposed to be 3 eclipses. In the BOS, the shape codes and the eclipse spells themselves could be logically connected together. In fact, there were two different ways to link them. There wasn't any solution to them other than the method itself. If the shape symbols represented an eclipse, and the eclipse spells represented another eclipse, then the HCB is likely an eclipse. There were 3 pages of HCB in the Create a ring section. These have to be joined together

There were two other things that were of interest but never explained: the filled in letters and the constellations.

Hest is English, solution is simple.

Once the HCB is properly linked, my guess is that the filled in suns (which stand out from the rest of the symbols) can be connected together like stars in a constellation to form letters.

The word that has always bothered me is "swirled". Do we honestly have to handwrite every HCB symbol in a swirl pattern??? Scaarreeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwww that!

I don't care about this and am not working on it but I always thought that the "S"wirled and coale"S"ced and formed a"NEW" would mean to use a compass of South North East West or SNEW to form the new letters or solve. I also thought that going from south to north to east to west also formed a backwards 4 if that means anything to anyone. Good luck.

    Angry New Clues - Where?

    Your interview with MS said:

(2:14:50 PM) Mike: not sure where we left off... bankruptcy settled. contest over. released a few new clues.
    (2:16:29 PM) Mike: basically says:
(2:16:52 PM) Mike: simple, english, Zac has the secret

Where did he "release[d] a few new clues"? His websites are all down. Where?

Also, the Simon / Schuster page for the book still claims "The mystery begins with clues concealed in the pages of this book that will give anyone anywhere in the world who can read English a chance to solve the clues and obtain one of the one hundred real diamond rings valued together at more than US $2 million."

See Secrets of the Alchemist Dar Audiobook by Michael Stadther, Jeffrey Hedquist - Simon & Schuster

Isn't this false advertising? Doesn't the USA have laws against this?

Default Hmm just playing with this....haha.... interesting...

I was playing with the HEST thing which is like this:
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX----N
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX----O
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX--->R<
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX----T
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX----H
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX-V-----------V
    XXXXXXXXXX-------W E S T---+---E A S T
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX-^-----------^
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX----S
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX----O
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX----U
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX--->T<
    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX----H

I am using the 3243 clue here. I have marked the 3243 ticks starting at the top. Following the clue Hest is English, as being the inside of this NSEW compass puzzle and compasses in book to point us there so here is the order: nortH East South wesT. To use the 3243: we use the 3rd letter into word North to get R, then we use the 2nd letter in the word East to get A, and then the 4th letter into word South to get T, and then the 3rd letter into word West to get S. So that gives us the letters R A T S which reversed is the word STAR. So maybe that is why the constellations are there to point us to this. Also we have had clues to reflect and the backwards of R A T S is STAR. This must mean to use a string of numbers with this puzzle to create other words? IDK. What do you think?
