    Default Anyone still alive here?

I see there has been a bit of recent activity but how may people are still alive here and still musing around with the alchemist dar? I know it is now not recommended here but how many tovers here still get that itch to dig out the book, rethink old ideas, or check out the forums from time to time?

Alive (-as defined in a thesaurus) and my responses in relation to this hunt :

    living - yes

    breathing - always

animate-yes, but once I was digital animation and now I am a stop gap version of myself

full of life-not as full as Iíd like

    lively -occasionally

    energetic- I wish

    active-quietly functional as a loner

    thriving-not at this time

successful-enough to know that the hunt was valid but not completely as of yet

Somehow this hunt has inextricably woven itself into the fibers of my being. Alas I find myself sentenced to analyze the alchemistís pages until I draw my last breath. I am not completely sure how it happened. It could have been any of a number of reasons not the least of which being that this was my first hunt but I canít give up the fight until I see it completely solved.

Good to see you again anneiam! For me this was far from being my first puzzle or my first code but was my first hunt and is woven into every fiber of my being as well. The style of the hunt and the context of the work just gave me a thrill I never had before and everything grabbed my focus right from the start. As a computer programmer I work with mass amounts of data, math, and codes everyday and I just had the feeling I could pull something out of this book. I had my own minisucesses here and there and was an active contributer to the offical forums when they were alive with my own little tidbits and drawings but just like everyone else we kind of faded away to our own corners only to pop back out for moments when people would post their next great ideas or psuedo solves or rocky finds. It was an experience (and still is) and has left its mark on my life as something to learn and grow from and reflect on. Every story as a moral and I think some of us missed this one from time to time. I think none of us helped each other enough and I am to blame just as much. Too many of us (including myself) still had hopes to getting that one ring that would just make our life. We would let go of things mostly when they eluded us to long and figured we needed that one answer to move on or let go when what we found we figured wouldn't directly help anyone because it jsut was another dead end. I just have the feeling in the pit of my stomach that we missed something, not as in a code or clue alone, but part of that experience of working together truely. Zac, Anna, Yorah, the doths, and the forest creatures all worked together and loved one another and we were stabing at the dark at best. I for one feel we can get farther even if not for a ring but for the personal satisfaction of knowing we did it and correctly.

    Corman,

Your other thread has some interesting ideas. I certainly like how you are being systmatic with this, which I always thought was necessary. While I think everyone has lost their enthusiasm for working on the puzzle, they would still love to see a solve. Please continue sharing.

    Snickers,

Thanks for showing up and joining in. I would have tried private messaging people I spotted still taking part in the dar forums but my post count is still too low to even reply to one. But those are the rules here and I am not really that far away yet. I know the enthusiasm has long since passed and there was that even for me too from time to time. This hunt was a big thing for me specially since I have worked with reverse enginerring data and codes for a living doing computer programming. I just realized that a true brute force just did not work and would not work. Just look and see how many different people of different skill and backgrounds went to hell and back with this hunt only to try to convince themselves whatever jibberish they happen to form was real. I even had these moments myself.

But I feel now if it wasnt clear as day once worked out, able to be found and confirmed by others, and take you to that next step or to a real unquestionable solve then it might as well be a product of our own imagination. Someone could have gotten lucky and bypassed many levels or missed an idea and still got somewhere but we basically know nothing worked and we could only for sure say for a fact that morse codes were figure out but never interpreted. Looking back this book truely sucked me in and spit me out long before I ever got to glance back and see it had me in circles.

I have lost much of the scribbled madness and a good part of my book most likely to a trash bin when I sold my house and moved. I do have some notebooks of notes that chronicle more ways not to solve this book and my few choice scans I made. There has been a good period of time that I stepped back from all this and cleared my head of alot of what drove me crazy almost forgetting the hunt all together.

It was actually rather recently that it all came rushing back into my mind like a brick hitting the back of my neck. I was doing some database work for a client and had to gather some data together for a report and without even thinking I ended up having to use the coalesce command in my query. It all flooded back as you can tell.

Right now I think I am back to the point where to make more sense of my notes, let alone my memory, I will need to get ahold of another copy of the book to continue forward. I hope to share all I can when I have the time because of work. I just lucked out having a weekend that was relatively free to myself this time.

I still check in from time to time, but I have finally given up on trying to figure it out.

My advice is to start with page 6 in the BOS. The two short (swirled & coalesced) strings translate to "sun" & "moon".

There are also filled in letters on that page. Maybe they translate to "syzygy"?
It is time. Time is it.

I too, have placed the book in my Jeep to look at once and again when warrented, and to grab easily. I have followed many paths similar to solutions from the original book, and thought I might be on to something - and was watching to see if anyone else had similar posts - but no.

I still peruse the old posts to gleen some missed info, and guess I will continue on.

Yeah I still need a new book. It is surprising what I can still remember or do just from straight memory. I guess I just stared at that book for so long that in parts it is burned into my head. I just can't always visualize the small details I want to still explore.
