    Default Metal detector

Don't know where to put this. Would a metal detector pick up a gold token? We have talked about the tokens being hard to find in daylight. Would this work?

    Default gold

yes, i have one. metal detectorists use them to find gold and other metals in the ground.

however, we've been told these aren't in the ground. Plus, you have to solve the puzzles by skill, then go get the token. You can't just run around hunting or MS won't let you claim the jewel. It's in the rules...

With a metal detector however you would be able to tell if there was something metal/gold in the hole BEFORE you poked your hand in there and hopefully you would have SOME logical reason for checking that hole. Omigosh, if you actually found a token and you were using the book as a guide, I dont think MS could deny you even if your strategy was NOT airtight. (didnt really want to use that word) oh well.

    Default rules

the rules are very clear on this... clear as mud

it says you MAY be asked to show how you solved the puzzle to find the token...

he can interpret your solution or lack of one and decide whether or not to award the prize

I certainly hope you are right wp , regarding knowing exactly where the tokens are once the puzzle (s) are solved. Especially since it seems like almost all of the ones I feel I'm making progress on ..are NOT close to me. But in making progress I also see the way my brain "tries" to make the clues fit the location I want it to be (CLOSE TO HOME). And if one of those brain tricks led me someplace closeby, it would certainly be almost unbearable until I checked it out.
Alas , I certainly hope Messy or someone finds one soon just to show it CAN be done.

But also he says you may find one strolling through a meadow or across a forest. As much of a hint in itselfwhere in a town it may be, this also shows that you could find one by accident and still claim it!
    Or am I just paranoid...

    *Of course*

He does not say they are not on the ground - he says they are not buried. What about if one was in a sewer cover or grate on the sidewalk?

Page 10 reads "Nothing needs to be lifted or moved for you to find them." I just notice it says "find" not "retrieve." I would guess this would mean theoretically, you could see it behind something without moving anything, but you might need to move something to retrieve it. But I doubt it. Just parsing every sentence within an inch of its life.

Poem does indicate they are "above earth."

Many of us "treasure hunted" as kids. This was done in the most basic of ways by walking and looking and finding. I really don't think they/he would deny a win/redemption to someone that just stumbled accross a token.
That said, I do wonder that if the finder of the token knows nothing about this treasure hunt, he may not be able to or understand the redemption instructions.
    Have a great day.
