Hi everyone, long time lurker, first time poster here.

Honestly, all this talk about bees, about deaddrop, about john trithemus... seriously? For starters, there is a good chance that none of us made it past the "culling", and that moving further in the puzzle is impossible. That even if we were to break the cipher from the source code of tormentum, the entire puzzle has been moved to an undisclosed location of the internet, assuming that it is still anywhere AT ALL.

GG has provided us with a cipher, from the source code of themostabstruse.net. You will not find some magical kind of key by digging into posts that has nothing to do with torment. Deaddrop is a page for sharing information within a select group. If GG wanted some information to be available to non-deaddroppers he would put it where we could find it. Don't even get me started on those bees. If you want to continue torment, then do torment.

I, for one, think GG is sick of the internet not being able to break his ciphers. I think he pulled the plug. I also think that the only shot anyone has of ever continuing his/her torment is to break the 4x25-number-cipher and post how here, where we know GG lurks. Maybe that would pique his interest enough for him to put the puzzle back up, or giving that person a link to wherever torment is now.

I agree. Let's crack what we got.

Probably. Even if you figure out how to import it, you wouldn't know which email to send it to, since his main one was apparently hacked. And even if you did, you wouldn't necessarily get a response. Seems like a waste of time messing with it.

Yeah, if you're reading this GG, it'd be awesome if you could drop by, and just give us ANY indication that the puzzle is still ongoing (or not). It would definitely get more people working on these ciphers we have, and its pretty clear we're going to need as many people as possible.

There's just far too many combinations. You would never be able to brute-force it.

Im not sure if this is relevant or not, but hey, at times like this, anything can be useful, right? =/
Its the old homepage for grngecko.com. Clicking it brought you to another image, and from there you had different links to Torment, IFTC, and Deaddrop.cc.

Yeah, I agree completely. Honestly, I think GG is done with Torment / the puzzles, but I still want to solve them. Its just much easier said than done.

Looking over the numbers, it can't be a straddling checkerboard or monome/dinome, due to no possible row number combinations. A row number is always followed by a column number, so any number that repeats (ex: 22, 55) cannot be a row number, which eliminates most numbers. Last number in the cipher cannot be a row number either, since a column number would have to follow. This leaves like 3 numbers, and all three possible combinations can be eliminated by the fact that one of the numbers immediately follows the other.

The other cipher I mentioned is something like a Tri-digital cipher but without a word separator: Chapter 8 -- The Cipher Exchange

I really hope its not, due to the fact that solving such a puzzle is really difficult, with no easy way to go about solving it. Even assuming that 6174.jpg = styx.jpg, I'm not sure how you could solve such a puzzle... its the type of puzzle like the shareyourtoys one, extremely difficult but solvable, only now we don't have a program like zkdecrypto.

That said, I'm going to search for other possible ciphers it could be. I don't suppose anyone else has come up with any possible cipher types?

    http://www.grngecko.com/solved.html is not working...
Here's some helpfull links, leading to a cipher.
The Seven Scorpions - Myth of The Seven Scorpio protectors of Isis
Isis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I know i am annoying but i am trying to help.
Look at this picture, the owl and the arm positions... Everything seems to have a connection! (carathis.jpg)

Also, the Egyptian glyphs got Owls and stuff in it.

Not at all. ^^ But I'd have to disagree with you on the relevance of the picture. It shows Isis with her arms perfectly horizontal, while the guardian in carathis.jpg has her arms slanted downwards (a perfectly natural pose, by the way, of someone who is guarding something). Also, the owl in the picture is simply a hieroglyph which represents the letter 'm', while the owl in carathis.jpg is connected to Glaucus (the owl of Athena [Minerva]).

I see your point. I think the best thing to do is to combine our efforts and form a decisive, coherent plan of action.

So, I believe what we agree on is that we're right now is focusing on the 4x25 number cipher. That is:

    Code:
    --5443-4655-9784-6733-2684-8959-8068-7802-1486-6692-1595-8506-1269-0694-3530-4090-3165-1782-8351-7327-8879-0894-3434-3809-1257--

Excuse me if im wrong but does the fact that the code is in sections of 4 mean anything, Could that point to a specific cipher?

Regularly, I'd agree, but GG has a history of displaying ciphertext in misleading ways.

I have very little knowledge of cryptology at all--I'm more a puzzle solver than a code breaker--but tonight I will be researching possible ciphers. I already have a few ideas that I will experiment with. ^^

On another note, I've been rereading the old Blocks thread. Perhaps it was because too many ideas were emerging too rapidly for us to absorb, but I realized that if we had done a slow review of our work combined with GG's hints, we would've come to a solution much faster. :P I believe it was stated already, but his "more than you realize" comment--that would've cut down a lot of possibilities. And yet at that point, we still were trying to do silly things like photoshop the picture. If GG is irritated with us, I can understand why. :P

Although... to get so irritated that he'd close the puzzle? That seems unlikely. The Kryptos has remained unsolved for two decades. Sanborn isn't throwing a tantrum and running at the sculpture with a stick of dynamite. Torment, at least, HAS been solved (as far as we could get), even down to the blocks, which took us 4 years to decrypt the ciphertext, even if we couldn't find the key to the next level.

And the culling? Did it even take place? I've seen only speculation; and that doesn't equal confirmation at all.

I'm under the impressions the puzzles are down because of the hacking..

Regarding the culling: Yes, it's all just speculations based on the hint. But as i see it, if one was to survive a culling, it would be Pent, and to my understanding.. He's just as stumped as the rest of us.

Oh, and the old thread.. It's a mess! When I first got into this it was mostly talk about jesus for 10 pages...

I'm trying to find a Cipher that has 4 digit numbers...
Well, i came across this: Beale ciphers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
And this one was interesting... The Alberti Cipher

Interesting! I grouped all numbers in three and got this:
    544 346 559 784 673 326 848 959 806 878 021 486 669 215 958 506 126 906 943 530 409 031 651 782 835 173 278 879 089 434 343 809 125 7
There is a "7" at the end... In the 7 PROT-ECTO-RSOF-ISIS there is a 7 in the beginning. But i don't think this is the way to do it.
I would want to know, who cracked the 7 PROT-ECTO-RSOF-ISIS ?
