It's quite possible. We've been saying the main page has been getting darker, although I wonder if it is more along the lines of we're getting further away from the star in the picture.

I think the reason GG removed the stars in the background and removed most of Torment was to get us to focus solely on the cipher. I know I've talked a lot about stars and the Divine Comedy, but I highly doubt it is necessary to solve the cipher.

On the other hand, I'm out of ideas as to how to approach this as a homophonic cipher. I'm wondering if there isn't something we're all missing somehow, and perhaps it is a different cipher altogether?

The only way I get around all of this extra stuff is just looking at it and going 'How am I suppose to solve this if I'd never logged onto Tweleve and seen the hints and if I didn't know the Grngecko.com main page existed. As I've said before, Gecko hasn't made Torment unsolvable so far, every page has something to assist you in solving the puzzles. Be it the way its displayed (SYT), text in the previous plaintext (on the page before the cockroach puzzle theres a hint about Periplaneta Americana which is just the scientific name for a cockroach.)or even text displayed on the page (like on the "turment" page).

    Hum. Now what's going on?

Nor was his name unheard or unador'd
In ancient Greece; and in Ausonian land
Men call'd him Mulciber; and how he fell
From Heav'n, they fabl'd, thrown by angry Jove
Sheer o're the Chrystal Battlements: from Morn
To Noon he fell, from Noon to dewy Eve,
A Summers day; and with the setting Sun
Dropt from the Zenith like a falling Star

    - Paradise Lost
Eh, not about Satan perhaps, but close enough.

Nowhere. I was just quoting Paradise Lost in reference to themostabstruse.com
    The image used: http://www.artsycraftsy.com/dore/dore_satan_falls.jpg

The quote is about Mulciber being thrown out of Heaven, although the picture on TMA is Lucifer. The quote I posted is a fairly well-known one, and involves stars. And although it is hard to see on the main page of TMA, the full picture shows several stars in the sky.

The picture on grngecko.com is now almost solid black. The star in the middle appears to be gone now.

What I'm curious about is why did GG move Torment to the TMA domain?

Ah, that's why I was lost. I hadn't even realized TMA domain was operational again. Interesting.

Looks to be either a transition between the two or simply that it's more credible and maybe even thematic that the new culling puzzle should be on TMA.com. But me playing the role of Mr.Obvious isn't going to help too much unless something happens. Either way, it's given way for a new index image with the same quotation as before...Funnily enough, I'm studying book I of Paradise Lost in the coming months, not that I think it would help too much...It hasn't so far anyway

Well, at least he shouldn't have any copyright issues with this picture. It's over 140 years old and should be in the public domain, unlike some of the other Torment images. This could possibly be one of the reasons for the change.

I'm new here, and I hope nobody minds my sudden intrusion into the stream and the pond.

This is likely nothing, but I've seen stranger connections yield more obscure ideas in other realms. A few pages back, it seemed that someone identified the characters on TMA as being those of Zodiac cipher Z308. I decided to prowl around the internet for connections between the alphanumerical tag Z308 and any stars or celestial objects. I also tried variants of that tag. When I worked with 308Z, I found an interesting, though coincidental, it seems, link:

    DANTES Online Catalog

At this link, if you scroll down to 308Z, you will find that it corresponds to a Humanities course on some set of Great Books, including those from the Medieval period, thus Dante's Divine Comedy. It is also humorous in noting that the website is called 'DANTES Online Catalog'.

That coincidence aside, I can't get Poe out of my head for a few reasons. The quote earlier from GG was from Poe's "Shadow - A Parable" (forgive me if that should be in italics and not quotes). In this very same story, there are seven people assembled whom still live, including Oinos. GG earlier gave a set of things in sevens, which makes me wonder whether there is a stronger link between the piece and TMA.

I'm going to investigate Orion some more, seeing as someone identified the quote from themostabstruse.com as pertaining to Orion, if I recall correctly.

The last thing on my mind, though somewhat disconcerting, is that the Dore print now on the home page (I don't know what better name to call it) is intended to send us the message that we're falling from the light of the actual answer. In my interpretation, this would mean that treating TMA as a cipher may in fact be the wrong way to see it. In fact, if it proves to be fact, the most abstruse thing about TMA may be that everything we seen on it is an immediate red herring which we deceive ourselves into following too easily. A thing to consider, though I mean not to sow discord. I hope (damnit, I should have abandoned even the word) that someone gets some idea out of this jumble of degenerate thoughts.

P.S. Where is Virgil in all of this? Who is our Virgil, if we are so blessed to have one?

I'm REALLY sorry for the double post, but I can't seem to find the edit button.

I can't remember enough about the original torment puzzle pages to remember this specifically, but it almost might be something. If I'm right in my recall, then I may be able to move forward with this. I was thinking about basically everything on this page (52) of the thread when it caught my eye. What I need everyone to do is to look at the bottom of TMA and confirm whether it is something that should be considered.
