Default Michael Stadther comments on Golden Horse Contest

I, too worked on the GH contest. So did my State Atty General, and numerous other State Attys General, who were all convinced it was a consumer fraud and definitely NOT a "contest of skill". This contest was pre-internet, so contestants couldn't contact each other as they can now.
Yes, I know there was a Captain Nemo "solution", but the "word" was that, aftter the contest ended with no winner, and in an effort to ward off all sorts of threatened lawsuits--- the sponsors gave ONLY the answer of TN Pass to 2 contestants. The 2 guys could therefore "solve" the puzzle by working backwards, from the answer. But their method was convoluted and illogical and made little if any sense to anyone involved in the contest. Some people accepted the so-called answer; others demanded an "official" solution to be published (never was), and others remain involved or irritated to this day!
I asked Michael Stadther why he was inspired by Masqerade, rather than the GH contest. He told me bluntly that he worked on the GH and actually SOLVED it (too late), but then poceeded to sketch out how he arrived at TN Pass. His answer made SO much sense and was clear and easy to follow! He also said he thought the GH contest was "very UNFAIR" and the last part was "very, very hard---TOO hard"... If you'd like to know how he solved it, feel free to pm me. Captain Nemo should be ashamed.

It is indeed but good netiquette says you should not link directly to individual pages on someones site.

My fault, the tone was all wrong.

I was trying to explain why I hadn't linked direct but how to get there via the main page.

    It really isn't a problem.

There's a new website with a proposed solution to the location of the golden horse.
The Solution to TREASURE: In Search of the Golden Horse It's well explained and the answer is not one previously presented. Spread the word.

Wow. Thanks for posting that, JudyC. There is quite a bit of work, and that solution was well presented.

It is not clear if the there are many ways to solve the puzzle, or whether the T - ISOTGH requires so much external information. (“Masquerade”, which is referenced in the T - ISOTGH “Party” chapter - “but I WILL MASK IT” = “but KIT WILLIAMS” - certainly had some external references in it.)

    A much shorter way -

There is a call-out to use the acrostic of the first letter of the text of each chapter, beginning at the FISH Chapter 6.

This is shown by the Fish grabbing the “R”, and repeated by the card XVIII on the front cover (= 18, where “R” is the 18th letter of the alphabet).
(Incidentally, there is another pointer to the FISH, which is not required but may help confirm - the title of the book T - ISOTGH <anagram> T - GHOTIS, where GHOTI represents FISH ... “Ghoti ... is a respelling of the word fish” ... Ghoti - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia )
I don’t have the book with me, but believe the acrostics yield

    TINGO - RESTATESHAPESATA

GO IN T - RESTATE SHAPES AT A

    --------------------------

INGOT - RESTATE SHAPES AT A

There are four “A”’s in the acrostic, each corresponding to the beginning of a Chapter.

There are also four pieces to the rabbit card.

    To start -

The first “A” (decipher the first) appears in conjunction with p. 44 (Chapter 10, THE SIGNAL).

This shows a SUNRISE, and the word SUNRISE fits into the first set of symbols (circles) of the rabbit card.

The sunrise is also shown on the front cover.

    ----------------

    .... have fun!

Hi again. I wish there were more intrepid seekers still around. I am checking on Knutsen being the designer of the monument at TN Pass and having his name carved on it. The sons of norway hdqtrs is graciously checking their archives for me. I hope to hear from them by Friday May 15.
