    Default How difficult is this:

I am working on an encoded treasure map, and I need some help in designing it. Specifically, I need to know how hard my first clue is, and or how hard it 'should' be-

You are issued a "map". One side features a "key", the other side features instructions.

    The only instructions are:

    "sfuil ruatm psaaml ich"

    So, what do you do?

    ---

If you think you know what the above statement instructs, send me a P.M. Please don't reveal your answer publicly.

The first one to solve this puzzle gets a free print of the whole map, once it is completed.

    Good Luck!

I have not yet issued enough posts to utilize the forum's P.M. function...

I have received one 'incorrect' answer. I won't embarrass anyone by mentioning their name. I'll just say please try again.

I have still not made "10" posts, so I can't P.M. anyone back.

I have received a second 'incorrect' response

    Sorry, please try again.

I just received my third 'incorrect' solution...

Sorry, no one has even gotten close yet.

    ---

How many posters/puzzle solvers does this place host?

Who is THE best, and has he/she had a crack at this yet?

I guess I have had answered my first question- This message is hard 'enough'.

    Now, is it too hard?

So, I am rather surprised that no one 'here' has managed the correct solution, yet.

Who's the best? Do you guys hold contests?

Here's what one poster relayed through a P.M.:

"It isn't a Ceasar shift, an atbash, a vigenere with keywords KEY or MAP or NORTH SOUTH EAST WEST or LEGEND. It doesn't have an even number of characters, so playfair and polybius are out. It's not a typing keyboard shift,

It looks close to a railfence or transposition cipher, although the lack of the letter E is strange. Anagramming seems weird. I do see the letters for MAP in there, possibly just a rearranging might do the trick.

I'm trying to make that word psaaml spell PUZZLE, which would be a shift of 0, +2, -1, -1, -1, -7...but why would these numbers be significant..."

    ---

I'd remark on these attempts, but I fear that I'd provide too many clues.

    Dear KOTA,

Best decoder? Nay nay. In my humble opinion I am neither good nor bad. What I do is take a pot shot and pray to that divine essence I may have struck lucky. 'How a peach will bruise if not handled gently'.

    Okay, but who IS 'good'...?

I mean the heading above this thread is "User Puzzles and Contests"...

Who has won how many contests?
