    Spoiler test

Yeah, that's what I thought. It's not working.

    Default My feedback

Here is my feedback regarding the first Quest Mystery, Vegas Die.

There are no spoilers in this post.

This was Stephen Grogan's (aka S. P. Grogan) first treasure hunt. The actual solution didn't involve any puzzles or decoding anything or even figuring anything out. There were puzzles and decoding involved, but they weren't useful in finding the prize and they had mistakes in them. The author's solution involved making intuitive leaps from a few clues in a book that was chock full of possible clues with nothing to point us in the right direction. The book itself was full of typos and mistakes, misspelled words, wrong words used and inconsistencies. We wasted lots of time researching things that turned out to be typos.

I recommend that if you decide to do one of Stephen's Quest Mysteries, keep in mind that he has more artistic tendencies than logic or detail orientation. And keep in mind that there are mistakes in Vegas Die, therefore, there may be mistakes in any other Quest Mystery he publishes. That could be part of the challenge, what's a mistake and what's a clue!

Captain Cooked, which takes place in Hawaii, is out now (captaincooked.com) and he plans to do another Las Vegas based mystery. He does have someone in Hawaii helping him in one aspect of that quest, so there's hope.

For more detailed discussion about the author's solution, see the Questor's Forum on the questmystery.com website.

I should also note that although this hunt was originally to be a three year hunt from the publish date, the author decided to end it three months early.
