A further note about your iii), Passepartout. It is quite interesting that Cassandra Austen is buried at Chawton, E-N-E of Winchester or something like that - the eastern side of the city does have some other interesting features, but then I don't have much to say that it might be anything to do with it.

    Hi flora,

Thanks for letting us know about your responses from WT. The second one shows that someone is monitoring the hunt which is great news. But it's very odd that some of us have not had a reply...

Sorry passepartout - I'm not ready to give out any hints to finding the red herring just yet!

    Hi Xodiak,

Yes it is a bit odd that you have heard nothing except the automated response after sending in silver/bronze answers. Perhaps the author doesn't get to look at the answers very often any longer, and so the policy of telling people which ones they have wrong has lapsed - I've no idea really.

Thanks Flora, Xodiak... maybe as you say, they're only responding to Gold entries, though it's a bit rum on those of us entering Bronze/Silver too... but hey ho. I had a brainstorm last night and came up with a novel method which would be a great solution if it works... unfortunately, I haven't got it to work yet! But I will keep trying. It does take into account the mysterious Dr. Who/Time Machine references that have been dropped, so am hoping for the best!

    All the best,

    Passepartout

    Hi All,

Have still been unable to make any progress after finding the ďred herringĒ a couple of months ago. Itís frustrating because the methods I use to find the red herring seem to match all the clues that Winnie has given on this forum, so I canít see what else I have to do to get the proper answer instead of a red herring. Iíve run out of ideas so I think I have to hope Winnie shows up some time and gives another clue

Hereís a couple of observations that I havenít seen anyone mention. I do not use this in my ďred herring methodĒ and I canít see how it could be used but it is interesting.

Have you noticed that the Hís in the border text for THE GREAT HALL A BUILDING A ROYALTY are a conventional looking capital H. In all the other borders, the bookís cover and the poem heading the hís are in a different style. Iím sure that must have been deliberate but whether it is another dead end I donít know. One further point which could be a coincidence is that if you look at the 6th border text (The Great Clock In The Course Of Time) the hís are in positions 2 and 17, from the start of the sentence, which matches the positions of the hand on the clock. Quite a coincidence, so Iíve tried to see where this might lead but got nowhere. If every border text had two hís I would be convinced they should be interpreted as clock hands but the number of hís varies...

If anyone has the PDF version of The Winchester Treasure Iíd be very interested to hear if the hís appear the same as in the printed book.

Does anyone recommend another hunt? I fancy a break from TWT. Maranatha looks very intriguing and active on the Tweleve forum. Is it good?

    Regards
    Xodiak

    Hi X

Welcome to Tweleve. I have TWT, but really have gotten nowhere to speak of. Been working Maranatha for 4 years now. Very interesting and learned a lot in the process. Fresh eyes may be whats needed to solve this thing. Other hunts are The Silver Key (new) that has a musical twist to it. FANDANGO is another one that is similar to Masquerade but again has been long overdue for a solution.

Also, there are hunts just for fun like CashHunt, WibbleFishBanana, Torment, etc that you will see under the New Hunts section of Tweleve.

    Thanks Stvwz

I'll probably have a look at one of those. I'm reluctant to take a break from TWT but I'm getting nowhere at the moment.

    Good luck in your hunting.

My PDF version has the same H's as your book, Xodiak.

I tried something new on the weekend, in an attempt to find the red-herring. If what I did was right, I found 6 clues that would count as red-herring pages, which are spaced symmetrically around the centrepoint clue 11 (though I won't say at which clue numbers yet...)

Xodiak - I don't know if your herring leaves you with a number of pages to avoid or not, but am wondering if your remaining pages provide letters to form an anagram (I daresay you've already tried that though!)

I had a quick look at Maranatha this morning, though I fear it looks complex... might give it a go though, as TWT is proving intractable...

    All the best,

    Passepartout

    Hi

Thanks Flora for confirming the H's in PDF version.

Passepartout - I've been looking for anagrams everywhere I can think of but haven't found anything of use so far Gut feel tells me the solution won't be an anagram but I could easily be wrong on that.
