Default This is a pyramid scheme repackaged

After reading the rules and the discussion that has occurred, I've decided that WMPBH is nothing more than a pyramid scheme slightly redesigned (with a skill component) to make it plausibly legal. An additional change from the classic pyramid is the lack of payment for recruiting. All this means is trhe author gets ALL of the fruit of your recruiting where in an illegal pyramid, you'd get paid something for recruiting.

The way this thing is designed, the author is guaranteed to make money and late players are virtually guaranteed to lose money. That is the 'essence' of a pyramid, and this reeks of one.

Just my .02 - I'm not playing this, as I'm too involved in SQ, Maranatha and soon, Dar.

Oh, one more thing... I don't think it's wrong for a puzzle to fund itself (i.e., sales generate the money for the prize), but I do think it's wrong to withhold prizes until the author sells enough books to pay out.

As you can see, this involves selling books to people and not telling them that there is virtually no chance they can win money for puzzles x through y. That's wrong.

you are too right mdred. I would completely agree with you, except for the fact that he is giving out payment for the first 5 puzzles, in advance. I've gotten $75 from him so far, over doubling the investment i put in to buying the book. I have a bunch more money coming once the 6 years are up, or whenever the rules say i will get paid.

Anyways, I would not recommend this hunt to someone just starting there treasure hunting "career" (i say that lightly), but rather for an experienced hunter/puzzle solver.

On the other hand, the first 6 puzzles are a good way for a puzzle solver to practice solving puzzles. Ken did put a lot of effort into making these, and I truly do like the concept of a 32x32 grid, especially the arrangement of the later, puzzles, primarily puzzle 7. They were very cleverly made. So far, I beileve Ken has lost money in this, as far as I know.

I just find it very interseting that Jason, the "brains" behind S.Q. endorsed this hunt early on. And now S.Q. is dead.. HMMMM

lafitte, i think its just coincedental.

Anyways, Ken does pay out for the first 5 puzzles, so I would say if your logic skills are good, and you are creative, this is a good "hunt" for you to pick up an extra $45 (-$30 for purchase, + $75 for puzzles 1-5)

And, if your good at it, you might get far enough and will get paid for later puzzles

Do we know this for sure, at least, does he still pay out? I'd be curious to see somebody submit a solution to any pre-#6 puzzles at this point it time and see if they get a check, or any contact from Ken at all.
