The last tumbler clicked into place
    FINALLY
    and Pandora flew
    while children beat the pinata
    on an imaginary garage post
    spilling epiphany and understanding.
    I am paddocked,
my head stuck far into the black hole
tunnels and tunnels of chalked words
come spilling down like dirt droppings,
your truth and treasures and trinkets
barns and cinnamon and shaman and dovetails
    (unboxed, unearthed, unspoken, unleavened)
falconer and tripod and crimes and paroles and
blue pot and blue earth and long island and
lots and lots of pennies to heaven, and
    prithee
    prithee
    prithee
    Not just written. Lived.
I'll use all five senses now
Not just feel and taste and smell
    (especially feel)
for I've been beating you to death
without realizing you were so stuffed
    with anguish and appledreams
and lion cubs in sleeping bags and feral felines
    and suits, orange roughy?
    And now, while Pandora flies
    I am awed
    that amid the flawed logic
    you offered
parasols and bedbugs and shelter and seed.
    Why?
I kept on beating and beating you with
    arsenic, unknowing blame.
So, so ignorant, this thick stick.
    I am awed.
    Whattosing? What to sing?
    Forgive,
    indeed.

    Take my hand no more
I can drift myself to shore
    The light will guide
    so leave my side
    and find another chore

I'll give my life to chance
    and enjoy the fading dance
    For once it was
    a step above
now fights to hold a stance

I say this once to you
so pause to see things through
    I'll stand alone
    so just go home
may life be good to you

    Default V8 moment

    When the Holy Spirit overtakes
    hot, hatted Southern souls
    on hard brown wooden pews,
even weary white women let go
    (of their burdens)
    and shout,
    Amen!

    When enlightenment shines,
    through stained glass Moscow windows,
    those who really see truth
    must see themselves, imperfect,
    capable of singing Amazing Grace,
    of feeling each word,
whether at Mariachi's or the Y or a Girl Scout meeting or PTA.
Odd that one Corona started all this.

    I cannot comprehend
    (but will try to understand)
the glorious soul that flashes red, blue, green and pink,
whose poetry is the best there is of him, (?)
the words that (ironically) heal the heavy heart.
I have nothing but words to offer you now,
publicly decried for all to read.

My lens has sharpened, and I see the
    preacher more clearly: just human,
what he had for breakfast, the size of his knuckles,
the image of a deep rooted breath turning.
It all means something to me, now more than ever,
    Christmas cards and resumes.

Sermons and prayers take on a whole new meaning
    when you get the reality.
No, I have not walked in your shoes
but would gladly wash your feet, friend.

I will stand by my unknowing innocence,
    my heartfelt proclamation: I believe!
    You are a good person.

    (Amen.)

    Default Emi's Song

One day several years ago, my daughter Emi (at the time around age 10) was playing around at the piano, and she came up with a little melody that, despite its simplicity, sounded to my ears to be new, as yet unused.

While this of course is unlikely (nothing new under the sun, etc.), I wanted to capture it all the same, and so wrote some lyrics and additional sections to create a nice little song. My recording of it can be found here:

    Emi's Song

Life is like a ferris wheel
    Just enjoy the ride.
    Moonbeams and carny lights twirling
Ride with your eyes open wide.

Seems like just a day ago
    Everything was new.
Your toys had no rust upon them
All of your dreams would come true.

    Rise and fall
    Then, rise up again.
    Have a ball
    Share it with a friend.
    Win or lose
    You must choose
    'Til we start again.

Seats gently sway in the warm summer breeze
    Sounds come from miles away
Turn perfect circles with splendor and ease
Stop at the top and just
    Gaze all around
    Soak up the sound
    Take in the town
    Then start back down.
One final circuit before winding down.

Little one who bears my name
    Here's what you should do:
Reach for the stars and the moonbeams
Some of your dreams will come true.

    Rise and fall
    Then, rise up again.
    Have a ball
    Share it with a friend.
    Live in peace
    Rest in peace
    'Til we meet again......

    Default onetwo free

Women hold themselves, when noone else will,
    in their heads. Misplaced anger
rises like mercury, babe's boiling point
    clearly lined.

It was bound to happen, the silence.

Middle-aged helicopters in the night sky,
    search light sweeping for
acceptance, praise, and the chance to
    feel young again.

I know that you are bone weary,
and that your solace turns to stone, cracked
    and bleeding weeds.

I know that your waters call you away.
Men do not often hear the calls of healthy hearts.

But there is truth here, too:

    Women chatter because they want
to still the voices of shame and imperfection.
Women want to be tucked in at night
    with soft conversation.
It really doesn't matter what the subject.

There is a voice that rings for every woman.

It had to happen, the silence.
Poetry is not soft enough to hold us at night.
Words simply cannot cover the pain.

In the still, empty evenings that lay ahead for me,
    I will hear your voice,
and wish, deeply wish, that I could
hand you the script that I want you to write.
    For me.

It would bring cool relief, brother,
    and let my mercury fall.

    Default Sadness

I have laughed and cried and contemplated this thread for months without posting, but tonight I will.

I finally got to meet MS and see and hold the caterpillar. It was exciting and amazing. I was honored to meet several other trovers who had wonderful hunting experiences and were instant friends because of our shared obsession.

Tonight I sit here in tears, very nostalgic, wanting the excitement, the intensity and the close community here to continue. I am ashamed that I am so sad since I did have the joy of actually finding a token, but I cannot shake the feeling that something important happened to me to my soul this spring and that I am already in the process of losing that precious something.

Your poetry, art and thought full discussions have been a comfort and inspiration to continue with the search, to continue with life- the ultimate treasure hunt. Thank you for sharing your souls with all of us, please never stop. I will be here often for your inspiration in this ongoing hunt and just because as well.

This group is the best of what it means to be human and I wish more of the world were like all of you.

    Sincerely, Olivia
    Olivia

Default a first acrostic: where glass lies in sand f. b

when art-skeleton slept on our couch
he brocaded a brandy in the evening
    even - i'll take a sherry, please
rehearsed, a badly performed two act play
evoking stabs from the post, or indifference

garbling, gabbling, boiling my lips and fingertips
listening for an invitation, a tess strawberry, only the best
alas, there is no de'urberville for me this night: I reached
so slow, solo, no pink knife from ana to know lancelot moss
sleep befell our castle like a cloak of dragon - with no breath

'lancelot' put his hand on my leg, leaned his lip to my mouth
inside me a snow came, oh, a powdered family globe, I warmed to him
even with his stare, unreflected in ornament or light, I glowed a carol
simply by thinking the chi of his inkwell that never was.

in reflection, i see he is and has always been a keeper of clocks
nostradamus of fetes and fish, a cold, clammy maine bowl. a NE kiss.

sadly I miss that mouth and arm, that leg and walk and hand
abacus sturdy with my mollusk - an odd winged pair that fit to me
not to be dismissed as dreaming in hot sand and sticky fingers
denied before dinner was even properly served. the power of cabs.
