Default Poem: "The Fall of Lee"

    "The Fall of Lee"

He was the hero of the South
In the hard times of old.
    It comes from every mouth
The story that must be told.

Through many battles and many a fight
He led his men in a valiant effort,
Using up all of their might
With every man willing to suffer.

    With time came abusing hardships
A slight fog clouding their cause.
    But still he led bombardments
    The men charging without pause.

    The men never lost faith
In the man that they were fighting for.
No man's loss would go to waste
Though they realized they could fight no more.

    But rallied they still!
The dim light of hope they could see,
    The situation looking ill,
But still standing was Robert E. Lee.

    After one more crushing blow
    The end came to be.
The South had paid its toll,
But still looked to Robert E. Lee.

    The hero of the war!
    Savior of the South!
    The Confederacy's last roar!
    Leader of the great oust!

In the end it was no more
The Great Cause could not be.
There was nothing worth fighting for
Without the man of Robert E. Lee.

Sorry. It's a fraternity who honors Lee as a Southern tradition worth preserving. Your poem was dead on for the frat.

No, I'm not one. I wrote the poem only because I enjoy learning about the Civil War, mainly because I'm a distant relative of Ulysses S. Grant.

    Rousing!
