    Default Tweleve Thread of Randomness

I got bored today... I know... suprising for me! lol
anyway, this thread is for all of you who have a random thought.
any errant thought or conversation w/ yourself will do. the funnier the better!
    for example.

I was sitting in class the other day, and i noticed a small bee buzzing around a light... I have a severe case of apiphobia (fear of bees wasps hornets etc) I then proceeded to not pay any attention to the teacher and watched that bee for the rest of the hour... severly compromising any work i could have done during class... i don't like homework for those of you who don't know me. :P
So I proposed, during class no doubt, that we eradicate said bee. Suprisingly enough, there are other people in class that have apiphobia too! Still watching the bee intently, I pondered the fact that by making the fact of the presence of the bee, I had just compromised the rest of the class's learning time also. There I was... chuckling to myself, watching morbidly as the bee dive bombed around the class, and seeing the wake effect of jocks diving under desks to avoid it. The bee left me alone. I began to think it was entertaining me. Trying to find an exit, this lone insect had caused enough pandemonium to make the teacher stop and not give us homework.
I'd like to thank all bees that are in classrooms for my amusement. As long as they don't come near me, im good... im good.

There you have it... totally random bee story that truly happened today in class... i was cracking up

When I worked for Compaq Computers, one of the service technicians returned from fixing someones computer. The computer apparently had a problem turning on.. as the lady demostrated to the technician pressing the computers power button several times. The technician, sharp as a whip, immediately identified the problem and suggested the lady try using a pencil to turn the computer on.. This worked! Later on, the technician left with a big chuckle and the lady didn't feel too special... Her fingers were too well nurished to press the computer button...

    True story.

I've had a massive migraine for the past 3 days. Today my four year old thought he'd be a doctor and "fix" me. He pressed his ear to my head and said, "Your brains are twisted...that's why your head hurts". Upon hearing the story, my husband said he agreed that my brains are twisted.

Everywhere I go people ask me for advice and directions. It gets so strange sometimes, and has happened since I was young. This especially happens when I travel, but happens to me at home, too. Just the other day, I was walking down the street at lunchtime with dozens of other people around. I was in a hurry so I was walking quite briskly. This woman came running from behind, passing other people, to ask me my advice on where to have lunch. Her two companions took a minute to catch up as others passed by. I gave her the advice, but really wanted to ask, why me?

Does this happen to everybody, or what? My theory is that everybody knows somebody who looks like me, and so I'm not threatening. People also often get me confused with someone else, which is what has given me that idea.

Just today, at the garden center, a man came up to me while I was waiting in line to check out and asked me what the difference was between an annual and a perennial, said he could never remember.

A few of the oddest/most memorable incidents while traveling:

I was shopping at Marshall Fields in Chicago (Water Tower), when Oprah asked me what I thought of a sweater. (I had just looked at it, but it was out of my price range. She bought it; actually, I think Stedman did, lol.)

I was lost in Budapest, after getting on the wrong bus, and ending up in an old neighborhood way off the tourist tracks. A German came up and asked me for directions.

I was in JFK and Christopher Reeves asked me if he was waiting in the right place for his very slow luggage. (He subsequently got oversniffed by a very energetic drug dog; he really cracked up over that.)

I was in Africa for the first time. I was still in the airport, and a native returning from abroad asked me where to get the best exchange rate.

Maybe the funniest of all is that I answered all of these people.

Lizzy, it doesn't surprise me at all that people come to you for answers. People naturally respond to nurturers of higher intellect. You come across even on the web as being a portal, a gateway, to a hmmm... more fulfilled place? Yes, I think that's close. You have a quiet confidence even in your writing that speaks to a higher happiness. (witness the random acts thread and the three best days thread)

Without realizing it, you are a security blanket for many, and the fact that celebrities are speaking to you makes me think that you must be putting out bigtime 'safe' vibes. You come across on Tweleve as a self assured person; in 'real life' you must also come across as incredibly warm to attract so many people. People want to be around you because you offer them a sense of peace and calm.

What's interesting is that you don't recognize this in yourself. You do know it's an incredible gift, don't you?

I was reading Lizzy's post about people asking her for directions and stuff and decided to write about my experiences. I have also had people asking me abroad for directions both in Italy and in the States, both in places I was visiting for the first time and where I had been for no more than 5 minutes. But then reading Carol's post this is going to look like I am looking for compliments LOL I am nota squirrel

My theory is that people ask for help from people who look confident. I have travelled alone a lot and a woman alone in some places the best way to act is as if you know where you are, where you are going and what you want. There is also the fact that I smile a lot, so I guess I friendly face also helps for strangers to approach me.

That's even funnier because I edited myself like crazy last night with my response to Lizzy's post. Every time typed 'you' or 'Lizzy' I also typed:

    'AND GABI.'

I decided you weren't who I was responding to, so I deleted all the references to you in my post.

I doubt seriously anybody is responding to the fact that you fake your way through international travel! They probably respond to the same things that I do, even through these black and blue walls.

    Too funny.

    Geesh.

I think there is something to what Gabi is saying about the face that we put on. In my professional life, especially from undergraduate students, there is sometimes a complaint that I am "intimidating" or even (lol) "not maternal enough." That's what makes total strangers picking me out such a mystery.

At any rate, thanks for the compliments. I'll pretend that you would still think those things of me if you knew me in the "real" world instead of in the virtual one. I think maybe cthree got me down when he named me his "personal offender."
