Default JUST THOUGHTS ON LOCATION OF RUSFUL

    Hi all:

I may be totally way off, but I have considered the possiblity of Rusful being either in the same park, Newaygo as Pook, or the same state, Michigan.
In the book, Pook and Rusful lay near each other after Pook attacked Rusful.
Just entertaining the idea that this could mean both tokens were hidden near each other. Or perhaps, a neighboring state to Michigan. I would be unable to go anywhere too far at this time, so wanted to share this idea with all.

Have not posted in long time, still trying to get back to some normalsy after Hurricane Katrina.

Good Luck to all and Happy Holidays!!!!

That sounds sensible, Trainor. Also, Ginkgo Petrified Forest, and any number of volanic, sulfuous parks would be candidates.

Unfortunately, MS didn't follow any theme when he hiked off to drop tokens. He just reached into his bag and yanked out a token at random.

Human beings just don't think that way (normally). We want to see connections. It doesn't seem right, but so far that's the way it's been.

    Chris,

Besides fingers, have you come across any other possibilities for 5x5? I know you were looking at the pottery shards. Someone else mentioned the black areas on the spider puzzle page. But none of that works as far as I can tell.

I am at a loss as to where to find the code. My guess now is that the clues being posted on ATT website will tell us an exact location.
What is the sound of one hand clapping?

Beetleboy, actually my name is Jeff. Renart is Chris. I missed you at Patton's Run.

Clue 4 has those two strange blossoms in the South position, with one and 6 petals. Behind them the flower stems appear to form the letters KEY. Beating 'KEY 16' to death, I've been looking at the border of page 16, which has 33 trees, the number of letters in the first Starz clue #5.

The trees can be ordered by thickness of trunk, and/or distance of trunk until it splits off into branches. It's difficult.

I've played with pages 20/21 for hours. I've used black, green, yellow, etc., in many different ways. I've counted black and green together as the same color. If you look at the knot that starts off the original Spider solution, you'll see it's large spaces are green and red. The largest fairies in Clue 4 are green and red (and they're extra, in the sense we already have green and red fairies in that clue). Nothing.

About page 80---I wonder if anyone saw on Starz the picture of Rusful from page 80? I had it on tape. They squeezed the picture on film so that Rusful was hunchbacked, instead of standing upright. Anyway, I couldn't come up with anything there, but with 28 pieces/pots, there's enough for a proper solution. I wasn't able to come up with the ANT solution either, and at that time I knew what to count, how to count them, and what to ignore. Still missed it, so don't take my failure to find anything as evidence that there's nothing to be found. I'm about sick of page 80.

There's curious vine-windings on page 69. They extend from the outside border to the inner border, and the inner-most border of the Drop Cap.
They look like an unsolved puzzle to me. I can't make sense of them.

Since you came back late to the hunt, your strategy is probably akin to mine--find the Rusful solution page and solve it without the benefit of on-line clues. There isn't much time left. I've worked the web clues enough to have a notion of where it might be heading, but that's all.

    Beetleboy, sorry---one more thing--

You said that your guess is that the Web Clues point out the exact location of Rusful---I don't agree.

Mr. Stadther is in the business of selling books, and I can't believe he would provide an exact location based solely on web-accessable clues.

I think the Rusful is well-hidden in the book, and that we may well need the web clues to find out the where and how to solve the puzzle. I'm hoping not.

    I don't agree either Beetle.

Since the existence of a Rusful token was revealed, I have believed that it was part of MS's plan all along. I think they are necessary, in conjunction with the book.

I like your like of thinking with the pottery shards though. I personally think that page is going to end up being our Rusful map with. There is a shard shaped like an arrow on the lower right that I have never been able to get over. I believe that it is pointing to the location on the Rusful map. Now if we only knew which park....

    Default Observations

I am going to throw out some things that I haven't seen mentioned, but I have observed about the book.

P.31, 20-21, 58 and 68 all have moons (that we know)

p.20 Rusful is in a mist, The Dream talks about a mist

p.31, in the background trees, they too look like they are in a mist. There is a snake going up the right tree's trunk, and what looks like an outstretched hand on the left tree's trunk.

P 58 I think is the area where Rusful is. The landscape seems to show a couple of monuments right under his hand. Can you think of a park with statues like that? Its obviously some place mountianous.

    p. 78 Doesn't say much which makes me think the sentence has meaning. The center Darkling is the only one to have hair. Why? I posted that in Rusful's hair on p 80 it says COMES BACK or something like that.

Then, the Dream really makes me think it is describing a specific place. I know poeple have talked about this before, but listen to this. A mist, between two trees, a grotto. This all sounds like Yellowstone. There is a geyser called Grotto, and after much pain I found a picture of it. It looks like a cave in the middle of water, and there are trees (2 prominent) in the background. Has anyone looked in this area?

    That is all for now.

I did this long ago, before all these creatures were found, just trying to find some way to make a 5 X5, sorry you had to go through the same headache....I have been gone since the spider was found. Saw there was a chance for Rusful, so I figure I am good for another go round.

Are there any picture pages left that haven't been used, has anyone cracked online clues 3/4/5/ or 6?

Or is this a could be anything in the book thing??

Hey, Hunter! Been missing your field reports. When and if Rusful is found, I know you'll be somewhere within a half-mile radius, probably (if you don't find it yourself).

No web-clues solved that I'm aware of, although there have been heroic attempts at Clue 3.

I think Rusful is an any-page-in-the-book. I started by checking pages with Rusful. The Pook puzzle mushrooms didn't have Pook on the page, however. Since Pook was at the end, it wouldn't surprise me if the berries on the page 10 preface are Rusful.
