Default ***** Hints in Starz Clues that led to Page 66 ******

I have been working the Starz clues all too long now, but had a breakthrough this evening. Hopefully this isn't posted somewhere already!

First clue was in the Press Release itself - which stated you had to use the Web Clues and the Pages of the book to solve.

In the Starz Clues, you'll notice the word "COPY" in the background scenery, next to the 5th Cross, lower left part of the cross next to "BE". Yes - the 5th box. We've seen 5 before! The "COPY" hint is given to clue us in on the fact that the crosses have been copied from a page of the book. Similar to what happens when you photocopy a protected document - like a check. You see the "void" show up. This was a big hint that the crosses mapped to the ATT Book.

    .....But which page???

Well, we all know Page 66, but not how 66 was arrived at other than a guess at "Rusful's Return". Here is how I came to Page 66.

Look at that 5th cross again, this time on the right side of it. You'll notice in the background scenery an "xy*", where the * is a degrees symbol you'd use in Geometry. Well, use the horizontal line just below the "xy*" in the background scenery and the dotted line that would intersect it going from the center of the "S" in the 5th square and use a protractor to find the angle _\ and you'll find it is exactly 66 degrees!

Right there in front of us, plain as day.

Seekeroflost...what a breakthrough!!! =D> =D> =D> Sweet!! I couldn't shake that darn x,y with the degree marking. I knew it had to mean something!! I'm not very good at math and didn't know what to do with it. I tried posting at ATT with the info I had but nothing seemed to come of it. Thanks for posting your findings!!

Ah Seeker- Looks like MS really took to heart some of the critics who said they were disappointed at the 'easy' solves of the other tokens.
I always took that to mean the solve wasn't what they had figured out.
You take the cake for this one! Great Solve! Thank you for posting it!
Now I'm wondering what the rest of the letters mean if they mean anything at all or are there just to take our eyes away from the Copy and the XY.

only have to say, if this is the what MS thought of, then its ingenious, and im not sure if I will even ponder wtf he will think of in Dar... It looks correct (after taking out my protractor) NOW, knowing pg 66 fills in the blanks, what the hell leads to the solve? and clue 5 still tingles my spine due to lack of letters, OBVIOUSLY MS has increased his ability to make puzzles that puzzle us all, and I doubt that will stop anytime soon, 100 rings next time, i wouldnt doubt if hidden by 10-20 different methods, i guess thats what you get when you obtain the crew that MS has for Dar, and I wanted a book that was just as EZ as ATT! ahh, i guess that means alot of work next time around (patiently waiting ) although Im lazy but I assume this is a lesson in what is to come

I've been wondering if something more is going on with this "degrees" thing. A compass has 360 degrees (N = 0, E = 90, S = 180, W = 270) There are three compass roses in the background in the Starz clue. On the cover of the Companion Book, there's a picture of a ship's compass with the degrees marked out on it, with a key next to it, and a clock. These three images relate to none of the puzzles or stories within the Companion Book, so why would he have put them on the cover?

I wonder if we are supposed to use compass degrees or angles anywhere else in the Starz clue? Could anything in in the illustrations or text on p.66 relate to degrees or angles? The only thing I can think of are the little circles in the picture (the ones that were used for Snail's puzzle). Maybe just a clue that there are circles invoved.

    Doesn't this connect somehow with Doc's theory of N, S, E, W directional codes?

    Default Doc

spiggan, reading my thoughts. Doc has said all along there are 24 jewels and the NSEW thing was the key. He's always been ahead of us in his thoughts.

Ok, this may be it, but still... MS said that this hunt was designed for small kids. I don't think that he would have made it THAT complex. What seven year old knows Geometry?

    Then again, 5x5...
