    Thanks Doc for all that. Time for me to regroup, however. Sometimes I just get a BURST of steam up about something,,,and work like a little trooper til I finish that task in the process, whatever it is. Then...I look at it and go...what in the world do I do with THIS now?

    That's where I'm at. So, I'm glad you stepped in to try to give me some sense of things. I'm just gonna go watch some more of my "24" DVD series and forget this whole thing for a while,,,,maybe when I come back to it,,,,and study your analysis,,,,later,,,,with 'fresh eyes',,,I'll get somewhere again.

    Like I did with the Petals on A Rose puzzle...when I read cabunk saying "that was the easiest puzzle I ever solved" and I, in turn, had to search the internet for the solution cause NOTHING I tried with it worked....I feel...well....

    ~~this is me shaking me head, going off to my corner, not sure at all what faith I am keeping or supposed to keep~~but I sure can identify with my new siggy

    Hunnytree, it may have been the easiest puzzle I've ever solved, but don't be discourage on my account! I haven't discovered anything in ATT in a LONG LONG time. You've got me beat by a long shot there. I think it just might have been a good day!

    Good evening all,
    I'm reasonably new here--first post and all--but I am very excited to read all the various theories about the 5x5 boxes and possible "fills" for the boxes.

    Please forgive if anyone has pointed this out already, but does the art on page 41 contain another instance of a 5x5 grid? (in addition to those on pages 16, 45, and 86) The Kootenstoopit's sock hat, which would also seem to be Zac's favorite, missing since the wedding night, has what could be a 5x5 checkerboard. The foremost corner is obscured by the fold, and the back edges disappear over the edge of the floppy sock, but it seems likely it could be a 5x5 grid.

    And the significance of the pointing Pickensrooter? Who knows...

    Back to my quiet reading,
    MQuiet

    Default The Firefly

    posted this elsewhere but...throwing it to the lions here, too

    A Question of Logic:

    If each of the pointing fairy drop caps are associated with a creature, each one, at least once;

    and there is NO pointing fairy drop cap associated with the Firefly;

    then, is it possible

    THAT is the "one that is missing you do not see" ??

    (for which the text holds the key?)

    You do not see a pointing fairy associated with The Firefly.

    Do you ??

    Remembering too, that there is a general consensus in this forum that the clues may very well be MULTI-LAYERED...so the answer that "the Q is what is missing -- it's not anywhere in the book" is not necessarily the ONLY answer !

    Is it?

    And couldn't there be still another POINT that the author is making ??

    The firefly, I think, is a beacon, lighthouse or firestation in the forest.....just my two cents again....

    And I might have been more clear. We know the Firefly appears in a drop cap...pg 28, W...Talking Trees, Chapter 5. But there is no pointing fairy there. Just a Firefly.

    What's gonna blow your mind even more, Hunny, is what if the 'Q' is not the letter missing... but the 'E'? Pertaining to my previous comment about the Companion book being the key... Puzzle 87 is this exactly. I personally don't think so... but it is a frightening possibility.

    Well, one thing's for sure. The "E" is a mystery letter.

    Another thing's for sure. Tho there be no "Q's" "within the text", all the way up to pg. 102, the end of the acorns, the end of the story, and inclusive of pg. 103, the last words it would appear, penned by MS himself in the book,,,,they suddenly begin to appear on the very next page, 104, as the descriptions of the Jewels begin - ostensibly penned by the Appraiser, Mr. Palmieri, beginning with the first jewel, the Snail, which has "turquoise" in its description. Thereafter, I find 3 more "q's" thru out the Appendix, for a total of 4 in the individual descriptions.

    Then, check this out, there are eight more "q's" sprinkled throughout the Appraiser's Notes, penned also by Mr. Palmieri, until we get to the last paragraph of his notes....and the last paragraph alone pg. 113, contains FOUR q's, for a total of TWELVE "Q's". Almost as if he was trying to catch up on 'q's'. And if I missed one, lol, which I'm sure you all will let me know if I did....there are 13.

    bizzymom was all over the appendix and the jewel descriptions a while back....and this "q" presence in these pages was noted as it came up then....

    but I don't recall seeing a "q" count....as it were....for the pages following the end of the story; i.e. following the last acorn

    so...
    for the record...
