The leaves seem too insignificant, especially when compares to other solutions.

They are moon like, they cause your puzzling (pain), and one on ending could be referring to the order of the seed key. Or could it be the order of the rows?
Help me with "I cause your pain" definition...

    From http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=dandelion

Word History: Dent-de-lioun, the Middle English form of dandelion, makes it easy to see that our word is a borrowing of Old French dentdelion, literally, “tooth of the lion,” referring to the sharply indented leaves of the plant. Modern French dent-de-lion, unlike Modern English dandelion, reveals to anyone who knows French what the components of the word are.
I hate anagrams, but I'm thinking the whole "Moon like..." thing was our clue from the singing knotholes to "look in me" and something else (that we'll never figure out because 36 character is too many to anagram!!!).

Two things that I have seen that are "hidden well" on 77:
    1. surrounding the doodle of the ant at the cottom is Stadther's name and also above it the word clues - the clon the left side of the ant and the ues on the right. So I get "there are 13 clues" for the ant, singed Stadther/
    2. If you look with a mag at the wing rib on the big Darkling there is a string of ants and some of the dandy heads hidden in the rib. So , yes I think this is the ant page and the dandy heads make the grid coordinants.
    3. As I posted before, there is also a dandy picture in the dragon jaw on 45. Also need a mag to see it (at least these old eyes of mine do).
    4. As cegodsey has noted, I think the X is key, but I'm not sure how. I'm experimenting with going in opposite direcitons from it currently.

And if I've been using the wrong grid all this time I'll probably want the darklings to carry me off, too - like to the "funny farm where life is sweet..."

Well, now that we know the solution, we can learn that:

    - it was the usual grid-type solution
    - it used the most obvious five-value set
    - even for those of us who had accepted the above two premises were not making the solution simple enough. Instead of trying slight variations on the most simple solution we wandered off into more complex ideas.

Unfortunately that was probably the last simple puzzle - the beetle, spider and pook don't have such an obvious starting-point.

I also agree. But was it that obvious really??? It sure looks obvious when we know the answer... MS did a good job in making simple things hard for most of us!!

    Default oh boy!!

you have mistaken hard for time consuming!!
solving a calculus problem is HARD.
but if i pull 6 numbers from a box of 40 numbers and have you try to guess the 6 numbers - well thats just number crunching!
you have to try all 2,763,633,600 combinations... eventually you will stumble upon the right COMBINATION.
there is no skill or problem solving involved. just crunching numbers into a 5 by 5 grid until they spell a word!
