Like I said, this is new to me as of last night.

So I don't know all the names and details. Is Ana the chick on the page with the dandelions in the border and the hidden ant at the bottom of the page?

Either way, I don't remember him using any numbers from her sleeve.

I'm not sure if he told me everything he knows though - so maybe.

Sorry I don't know more about it all.

It is possible that the token is NOT in a tree. CEgodsey implied that the Caterpillar (?) token may not have been found in a tree.

Tell him not to give up!

Tell him if he doesn't find it right away to stay there for a few days. Sometimes something will show up on here or he'll make a discovery that will require another trip. AND, sometimes you can get overwhelmed or lose your knothole sight (I got to where I just stopped seeing trees, just shadows of where they should have been). Talking with a fellow trover can help as well.

Sorry I haven't replied back in a bit - had to come home from work and then a quick beer run.

    Answering the posts in order:

oberdink - not sure how many dandelions he used. he explained his method in a fair amount of detail, but I don't know for sure. he may elaborate when he gets back, as I believe he will collaborate so as not to have to finance another trip on his own.

cabunk - he started at the tree he identified, but the lowest knothole was about 10 feet off the ground. i'd think this is a good indication it's not in that tree. even so, he got an employee of the property to lend him a ladder to look anyways...but no dice. so he searched the remaining area until he exhausted his options (the site does not appear to be that big and there looks to be a good bit of open ground, leaving less area of potential hiding spots).

cegodsey - taking him seriously now? anyhow, i encouraged him to stay but he was really supposed to be back tomorrow for a prior obligation, although i believe that pooch is now...how you say...made love to. also, like i said above, the site is not that big and he didn't fixate on the original tree, or even trees in general. i'm afraid an extended visit, as well as another trip, are very likely not feasible. i expect he will share info on his return, but i would have no idea if that would be publicly or private collaberation.

duvaone - the free aerial photo and usgs topo site i use from time to time at work is terraserver something or other dot com with homeadviser or something similar in the url. you can probably google it fairly quickly. if not, i'll post a link when i get back to work. terraserver is pretty user friendly, but if you have questions, ask away. i believe my buddy was using globexplorer, based on his print outs, but i don't like it as much as terraserver. there are probably others.

to all - forgot to mention, the site in question is the same shape as the drop cap (?) thing with the fairy or whatever pointing to a spot on the map.

as in, not quite square, very slightly rectangular, but straight on all sides. and when you match the two images up, it's pointing right at a tree.

not near a tree. not sorta on the tree. right smack freaking dab in the middle of the tree.

and when he got there, he said it looked just like whatever tree in the book he was thinking of.

but like i said, it doesn't appear to be in that tree. we just don't know if it ever was.

    thus, the OP.

also, let me re-emphasize that this is ALL his work. i have nothing to do with it other than trying to get him some info while he's away from a computer. i don't want to steal any of his glory with this discussion (whether he's right or wrong). i'm just talking for him in his absence and trying not to say anything that he might not be ready to share.

if his solution isn't correct, i would consider it a red herring. or rather a deliberate mis-direction. it would just be way too coincidental. there is only one other way to interpret (sp?) his solution, and if that's the correct way and this is the wrong way - like i said - deliberate mis-direction. unless of course there are other clues he's unaware of that would make the distinction.

i realize that's a bit vague, but i can't go into more detail, as it's not my info to share.

i think it's pretty neat what you all are up to. i just hope i don't get sucked in any further because i don't want this stuff to drive me (more) insane.

    sorry for the long post.

and btw, would anybody have any idea why i had to create another account to post from at home? i logged in as the name i created at work and the site let me see all the different forums and threads and what not.

but when i tried to post a new message (repeatedly i might add) it kept asking me to log in. which i had already done. (repeatedly i might add)

did i mention i tried more than once?

what the effing heck. is it some kind of cookie thing or something. doesn't believe it's me if i'm not posting from the same machine?

it's a good thing i saved that long post and could cut and paste it without having to re-type it.

    cause i wouldn't have.

i almost had to get, you know, mid-evil on its bottom. not uber-evil. but definitely mid for sure. i darn near posted one of the unhappy smile thingy's.
