still waiting - the nurses brought me a beautiful fruit plate and tea a while ago and after I actually kicked back on the couch and slept over 3 hours - seemed like a miracle tome - sure helped time pass mroe quickly - think its partly because I relaxed some. the responses here help me so much. A few instant messages from family were great also Still - it is almost 5 PM now here and I am still waiting for news - could be done any time -
thankful to all out there keeping us in your prayers - i know its powerful medicine
this place is so different and beautiful - though I only have the view from this hospital room to go by - the beautiful fuschia flowers in the window box on the balcony overlooking the koi pond....
perhaps soon I wlll receive news that my friend has reached the recovery room

7:30 here - in the evening - people back home getting up and starting their day as it becomes dark here and the twinkling lights in the trees around the koi pond here begin to sparkle - it is beautiful
but I am a bit worried - I am still waiting for the call to say my friend has reached recovery room - surgery started at 9 this AM - here they don't send any bulletins about progress - jusr supposed ot be a call when recovery room is reached - perhaps soon
hope all is well with my friends out here in tweleve land - know many of us have trials and tribulations

Now there you go. Look at those beautiful flowers welcoming you. God is there with you. Kinda reminds me of the beautiful rhododendron we see growing on WV and KY mountain and roadsides in the early spring and summer. Hang in there. Your pains of homesickness and worry are normal.

I'll give you a little chuckle this morning. My mom lives here in WV in the southern region. Much more country than were I live as you know. She was telling me about going to church this weekend and had the elders at the church pray for her. She told me about shouting on her bad foot and after she sat down.....(are you ready for this old country saying?)
(are you sure? I'm still laughing)....she said, in her sweet southern drawl,
"Well, after I sat down, my legs were a shakn' like an ole dog passin' (my word) a chicken' bone."

Backgammon, thought you could use a little chuckle. I'm still laughing at her remark. I love those WV and Kentucky country folks. Gotta love their hearts. That's why you're there where you are. You've got a good heart. We're here praying for you. benz.

thank you all for your thoughts and prayers - I have just had a call from the surgeon - it is 12 minutes till 8 pm here - my friend is heading to the recovery room - she wil be there till am at least as the surgery went longer than expected - started at 9 this AM - so far so good though - at least she is in recovery
I am feeling better and will be allowed to see her in about 15 minutes a nurse is to come and take me there! hoping things proceed smoothly -
now I can begin to think of leaving this building and seeing some new and wonderful sites and experiencing new culture
tonight I ordered a thai dish for dinner - different but delicious - sweet and sour chicken, thai style, veggies in it i couldn't identify - like one of the fruits on the fruit plate at lunch - and the side decorated beautifully with lettuce and three perfect small slices of tomato topped with 3 of the most delicately and intricatley sliced cucumbers I have ever seen a delight to the eye as well as the palate - kicking myself now for not taking apicture of it first - lol
so relieved though the surgery is complete - now the thoughts can flow more freely

Glad to hear that your friend is in recovery. Please keep us posted on her progress, and also about your adventure. I don't think many of us will ever get the chance to go to Thailand.

    Oh that picture is beautiful!

I hope I get to go to Thailand one of these days. I can't travel at the moment (broke right now, but hopefully only temporarly!) But a couple years ago I went to San Migel de Allende, Mexico. I went all alone, and I was there about a week and a half. It was WONDERFUL. When I first arrived a the airport at Mexico City and got completely lost (completely) and had no idea what I was doing. Mexico City is the largest city in the world, population-wise, so the airport is pretty busy. I spent about a half an hour carrying around my heavy bags from terminal to terminal trying to find the place to catch a taxi to the bus station. That was wild!

But when I finally caught a taxi and left the aiport, it was fine, though I was afraid of getting robbed. (Having read all the warnings about Mexico City, I spent as little time there as possible.) Nothing like that happened, and people were extremely friendly to me. I think partly it was because I tried to go out of my way to be very courteous and converse in what Spanish I knew. I didn't know much, but maybe they respected that I at least made the effort? I was really surprised because I expected a lot of smog in Mexico City, and I did see some, but I also saw a lot of beautiful trees and plants even in the city. There were purple jacaranda trees blooming everywhere. I love exotic plants, and I would also love to see the plants in Thailand.

The bus from Mexico City to San Miguel was very inexpensive but was also first class. It had air conditioning, reclining seats, and TVs. The bus was completely filled, but it was so comfortable! I slept and watched TV. I don't have enough good things to say about the hill city of San Miguel de Allende. I'd really recommend it. I also went to Delores Hidalgo (got real nice pottery direct from a factory). I want to go there again so bad!

I hope you and your friend can relax and have a good time, Backgammon Bob. Just one little warning, be sure to drink bottled water and well-cooked food. You don't want to get sick and have to spend more time at the hospital. But even if you happen to do get a touch of what travellers in Mexico call "Montezuma's revenge", don't let it spoil your trip. I read that eating papaya well help settle the stomach and prevent you from getting ill.
