I hope everything is going well with your friend today. What an unselfish thing for you to do! I'll keep you both in my prayers.
If you use your computer, you can go to the American Embassy in Thailand website and there is an online form to fill out for anyone staying in the country.
Also, there is an American Chamber of Commerce there. Use there website. I would imagine they would have pamphlets on things to see and do just like here in the states.
Ask the nurses that you are in contact with. Since they live there, I am sure they can help you find something interesting to do and see.
Take care and have fun when you can!

Wonderful news on your friend. Lovely flowers as well. Looks like you had a peaceful and comforting place to await the news of your friend. As others have posted, please keep us updated. Recovery of course will take some time but it looks like the light at the end of the tunnel is in sight.

SO glad I have my laptop here!
so glad I slurged and charged one! lol
feel so much better with the contact of the net and family and friends!
and all your thoughts and prayers ease my mind - help a lot!
really enjoyed hearing about your trip to Mexico Spiggan - I have only been there once and only for a few hours off a cruise ship where I was on with 80 fellow postal workers! back in 2000 -- know I want to see more some day!
    always love to hear stories!

I have just come from the intensive care and Teri is doing much better.
last ngiht i was worried - I do think they will bring her back to the room soon.
she is still having a lot of pain of course - but so happy to be here and finally getting this done. There will be another surgery to finish things in about 6-7 days then after another 5 or so we will move to a nearby hotel for follow up for 5-7 days - should be happily returning to the states the 19th - my family is missingme and struggling with many things too - hope you wil keep them in your thoughts as well - I often think of the others here telling their stories and send out thoughts and prayers of all holli and dreamer and ladyhope to name a few - such a wonderful group of friends you all are

this is a very different place - I choose menu food each day just like patients - they take care of a companion as well as the patient! and the balcony is beautiful - all the room have them! and many more larger ones out through the halls - open to fresh air! and visitng is 6 am till midnight on all the signs I have been able to read - very encouraging of friends and families being involved with the care. a different less clinical outlook on patient care and well being - and the medical seems to be very current as well! looking forward to sharing more
thank you again for your continuing support and words of encouragement and ideas like embassy for info!
like having a village with me here in this box!

a new day is starting here - it is a bit after 6 in the AM - already sunday here
nurses coming around and finding out just what a bad patient they have in my friend - in the night she insisted in the night between morphine shots on removing her bandages from chest area and putting on some lacy pink thing she dragged out of the bedside table - think I am going to have my hands ful trying to keep her from doing such stuff - the nurse just had a fuss and got her to re-bandage - I did re-do itonce yesterday evening but she is so restless! its very difficult for her and I think a lt of the restless is the nicotine withdrawal but she keeps insisting it is not - what do I know?
but - she survived this amazingly long surgery and is still full of spit and vinegar - and the staff here is amazing. I do like many thngs about this very foreign care. The plants - a very congenial hospital lady even delivered a dozen long stem roses arrangement to her yesterday! the day before there was a beautifully wrapped package of a strawberry yogurt drink and some cookies. I am wondering if we are suppossed to do some sort of reciprocal gifting and if so what and when ??? anyone out there? the guide books I have consulted talk about taxi tipping and taking care of waiters etc - but nothing for this odd situation - anyone out there with ideas??? you are such a wonderful and knowledgeable group
sure do hope the morphine kicks in again soon - it sure is easier for me when she rests though I am sure the less morphine she has the better for both well-being and healing
thanks so much all you out there keeping us in thoughts and prayers -it is helping tremendously!

backgammonbob: that's a touchy situation. Is there anyone there you can ask? We tip different things here at home, but not a hospital staff. All the things they are doing may just be part of hospital standard operations. Do they have a gift shop? A nice card or book to someone those you feel have been especially nice before you leave. Or offer to buy lunch for some. I wouldn't go overboard at this point. It may be expected by others. I would wait until I leave if I did anything at all. JMO...benz

not a great night here - but surviving
tweleve has kept me through the night and it is after 7 in the AM monday here already
going to break for a bit - hoping htings improve - without the iv and morphine drip my friend was terribly restless through the night
complaining of weakness and pain - pain understandable - but wasn't listening when I pointed out weak 'could' be from the fact she refused to order lunch OR dinner yesterday - i am seriously tired - have I already said this getting a deja vue feeling - lol
thanks for the advice benz I am glad for the insight will keep in mind!

my thoughts and prayers are with you and your friend also,BGB. my daughter just went through a major surgery 4 weeks ago, and the waiting is almost as bad as the surgery. just believe. God will take care of everything else. be sure to take care of yourself, and don't get run down. the pictures are beautful. i have some pamphlets of this beautiful country, and dream of going there some day. (I love thai food). i'm going to a place i have on line where you can light a candle. i'll light one for both of you. when she gets out, be sure to try to see what is comfortable for her, (don't try to do too much). enjoy it though. luv and prayers.........becky
