# Thread: How is the hunt for the 12 different?

1. ## State and Mile

The two self-proclaimed "puzzle people" on the 5th floor say that they know the state and the mile, but not the highway...How can you know the mile, but not the highway? This does not make sense. Perhaps the 12 does not have a highway. Maybe it has something else for the "H"?

2. I dont know. Seems that anything is possible. I still think the chalkboard shows how to actually find the 12, much like the one on Floor 1 showed how the others were found, seperate from the puzzle for that floor.

I dunno, seems like if you got the state and you knew one of the numbers was like 84 or something (e.g. an interstate that doesn't exist), you could pretty much rule out that it's an interstate and therefore the mile.

Seems that way. I have to agree. It be hard to have those and not the other.

5. So maybe the 12 is in a place where there is no interstate. But if you have another number, and it is not an interstate/highway number, like the two puzzle people, you would guess that it is a mile. Maybe the H stands for something else...like House. Perhaps it is a famous house number...For example (now I'm not saying this is an answer or a solution, I am just trying to get people to look at things differently here...) what if it were the address of the White House? Or Graceland? Or some other famous house. You really would not need a highway in that case. Or what if the M stood for something different?

6. ## ID

The motto over the door is the state motto for Idaho. But Idaho has been searched and searched. But maybe the clue to Idaho WAS intentional, after all. What if the clue is not the word, Idaho, but its abbreviation, ID?

I googled ID just to see what kind of hits came up. One was that it is an unaccepted roman numeral for 499. But the other, more interesting hit was that "ID" was a show based on DOCTOR WHO. The plot of the show is in the FUTURE. Maybe the Idaho clue was a wild goose chase, and put there to make everyone believe that the 12 is in the state of Idaho. Perhaps it was meant to make floor 9 more difficult to solve, so that it would most likely be solved last.

Can it be a coincidence that the abbreviation for Idaho is also a show based on Doctor Who? Maybe. Maybe not. I think not.

I am going to post this on TCWAF official site too.

Just playing around a bit with the letters of the states where the first twelve dig sites were located. One possibility:

AR WA FL ID CT IN OH IL MD CA TX VA
Hid at Roman ccxvi. A Flat Wild.

According to the Interstate Rest Areas website, at approximately the middle of nowhere, is NV / I-80 / mile 216: Valmy, Nevada. It looks like a flat wilderness.

The only other mile 216 rest area is at TX / I-45 / mile 216 in Richland, TX. This does not look so much like a wilderness, but it might fit with the fork hints Gus has been dropping. (It is located on the fork of a reservoir.)

I'm sure there are other roman numerals that would lead to other mile markers and the "a flat wild" phrase would change as you added or subtracted numerals/letters.

Another way to use this approach: in order to spell the word "marshmallow" using the letters of states where dig sites were found, the last dig site would have to be in Mississippi (MS).

## portal to the future

MayorSara, thanks for the thread,it got me to thinking out of the box and
looking at the book and chp fl 9 again,as crazy as it sounds this is what
i came up with

so can the SHM be put in a pic that portrays a room in the future, as the future seems
to change from day to day, i was trying to work out what the year and date were, when
the boots disappeared and the 12 headed sculpture showed up
if not then maybe its in the text

text from fl 9........
munari bakula says "Warning!" This is no mere door---it is a portal through time.

then munari bakula welcomes dodge and gus through the door which munari bakula
says is the portal to the future (not verbatim) "Welcome to the future!"

gus asks, "what year is it",
"2308 september 18 to be precise," says munari bakula

just guessing using those #s,IDK if iowa was searched
iowa the 29th state
80 (81) eb Adair Rest Area
Iowa Rest Areas | Interstate Rest Areas
iowa looking good for those #s
more for iowa
29 (80) sb Missouri Valley Rest Area
29 (3 sb Pacific Junction Rest Area
29 (3 nb Pacific Junction Rest Area
80 (32) wb Shelby Turnout
80 (32) eb Shelby Turnout
80 (19) wb Underwood Rest Area
80 (19) eb Underwood Welcome Center
Iowa Rest Areas | Interstate Rest Areas

IDK why there is a smiley where it should be a 8,should be 38

9. Great Scot! cw0909, can you better explain your deduction for the state? I'm not seeing the 29 for statehood. I see 31 come up most often in various ways, which points to CA, but that goes against everything I've been toying with.

erexere , sorry the smiley messed me up,i meant to make the september in
"2308 september 18 to be precise," says munari bakula
wrote out as whole #s too,2308/9/18 or 9/18/2308, now if a #9 for sept
is added to the mix, that opens up 4 more combo of #s in that # string, so
now 9,19,29,39,can be added to this string of #s
1,2,3,8,10,12,13,18,20,21,23,28,30,31,32,38
of those #s the 10,19,21,28,31,can be eliminated as st hood #s

found #s and the st hood #
