What bothers me even more, is that MS says nothing of the hoax being discovered in the companion book. That article someone found (KUDOS to you!) was written in 9/2004, well before these books were published.

well keep things in perspective here, the companion has a pretty decent-sized write up about the curse of king tut. i know i'm not the only one who has seen the countless specials on discovery channel and TLC that debunk the king tut curse pretty soundly. there has been plenty of murmurs that the beale ciphers were a hoax, and about all that MS can provide as evidence that it wasn't a hoax is a belt buckle and an iron leg from a pot. huh?!?

MY POINT IS... all of this considered... i don't think it matters that the voynich manuscript could very well be a hoax, and may have even been 'proved' as one before publication of ATT or the companion. what's more important is the intent MS had in putting these things in. we can probably assume, especially from the way he writes about these treasure hunts, that he most likely wrote believeing the voynich manuscripts to be real. since they were mostly considered 'unsolved,' and the companion professes the same kind of assumption, i don't think 'how' they are encrypted is going to be terribly important. how MS has manipulated the images of the voynich by his own free will is the more interesting part.

the whited out lines... page 34 on page 34?! and the re-ordering of 34 and 33... i just hope female reproductive organs don't have anything to do with this

    Default Companion book hoaxes

Just posted about all the oddities I found in the companion book, and the response I got from Stradther when I asked him about them. Rather than repeating myself, here's the link:

Yeah! Reminds me of the colored grids with black squares!

Regarding the whited-out lines of the Voynich Manuscript, maybe *what* was whited-out isn't important, but rather *how* it was whited-out? Meaning, every other line! This may have been a hint from MS to read *every other* line (or word or letter) in the book, to find a *hidden* message? This remind me of another cipher of this sort, but I can't remember it right now.

Just to top off the Voynich discussion re: Yale Rare Books Catalog No. MS 408. Agreed, it *is* the catalog number. Agreed, it is likely a coincidence, unless Michael Stadther (Mr. Hard Test) decided to borrow those initials for a pseudonym.

Now what's this about whited out pages ???

yes i am still curious what is up with whited out pages. if nothing else, it would be nice to find that image file online somewhere, and then it would be very easy to go with the conclusion that he was just grabbing image files off the web. i think that's pretty apparent throughout the companion anyways tho. all the pixelation and what not. but those whited out lines bother me so much!!! ESPECIALLY if he did it himself. regardless of how the companion relates, etc. why white them out? maybe they are dirty...

anyone else wonder why the companion book has MULTIPLE mobius strip puzzles? it's like he's emphasizing the idea of ending where you started. maybe we should be constructing the pages in some kind of sequence that loops back to the beginning? who knows... not me!

    Hippodude,
I'm confused... You want pics online, but you already posted links to those pics... ?
Do you mean you'd like to see a *deciphered* pic of that every-other-line-whited-out page?
*Every* page in the book can be seen here.
Anyway, here's another one, found at the above link, on P8 of 14:

It *does* appear that MS is the one who whited-out the lines... But why?
I still think the missing content isn't important, but maybe just emphasizing *every other line*
(or word, or letter), as I mentioned earlier in this thread, may be important... ?

    *edit*

Another thing interesting, I just noticed, is that the page is numbered '78'.
There are *7* ladies in the top pic, and *8* in the bottom... Coincidence?

no i don't want a pic of that i already have that i posted the link in the first place !! :P

i want to see a copy of the img MS used in his book online. it is obviously an electronic image of some kind. i want to see a copy of it online (public domain or what not) that has the lines whited out. that would be confirmation to me that it's pointless. but until that happens i'm led to believe it means something. and i hate that

I know you posted the link to that pic first, that's why I was confused! LOL
Well, now we have 2 of them... At least mine isn't distracted by the Yale watermark... LOL :P
I don't understand why, though, you want to see MS's original image... ?
He's obviously the one who whited out the lines, don't you think?

    *edit*

Even if you did find MS's original pic, and it also has every other line
whited-out, doesn't mean he didn't specifically choose that pic for a reason!
