good point ... i agree it's probably safe to assume MS is responsible right now ... i hate getting so worked up about it but it's really bothering me ... don't know why

excellent! now we know for a fact MS didn't have anything to do with the white-out. i wonder if we should ponder this method? maybe it will come of use later...

Yeah, I think I'll put it on the back burner, but keep in mind that there might be a hidden message in the book, using this method, or something like it. I'm still suspicious as to why he chose *that* particular pic, out of all he had to choose from... ? :P

Aww, Tom Tupa is still easy on the eyes! LOL

I think you guys might be going to deep. I do not have the companion book and I was told it does not help with finding the tokens only helps with looking at puzzels and pictures.

I believe their is a Major Red Herring. All you need to know is how to read.

Just a thought, If anyone is an artist can they try to copy the art work to get the background meaning. For example: My grandfather was an awesome artist and he told me once that he could not figure out a Picasso, what it was so he started to replicate it and he said as he started he began to realize what it was and as he copied it he figured out exactly what it was. I wish I had1 percent of his talent but I do not, but if someone does on this site, They would be able to see the background meaning.

MS has said he spent over 300 hours on each picture so there must be more hidden then we can see.

Thank you so much for posting that link, H4T!

When I emailed Stadther a few weeks back about the laundry list of odd things I'd found in the companion book, he basically said not to read too much into them. He said that he was in a rush to compile the companion book and some of the strange images and oddly-written stories weren't really clues; they were just the result of his rushing and some unreliable sources. He told me that a number of mistakes and errors had been brought to his attention, and said that he would try to fix them in subsequent reprintings.

Still, p. 78 of the Voynich never sat well with me. I could understand typesetters mangling some of the codes in the book, or designers rotating and altering the images, but the whole idea of whiting out every other line of this manuscript seemed too odd to be a coincidence. Now, after looking at that link, I suspect that Philip Neal may have just been yet another of Stadther's unreliable sources.

With that cleared up, now I just have to condition myself, like a disobediant puppy, not to spend too much time applying Neal's wacky Voynich theories to ATT: Verticle columns with gaps inserted, hmmm ... "the letter q may only be replaced by d k l p r s t," ohhh ... "The letter m (the one which resembles the numeral '8' with a tail) is almost always the last letter in a line of text," ahhhh.

Think I might start using a rubberband -- snapping it every time I get distracted by one of these completely improbably avenues.

I still think that pic may just be a hint to read every other line (word or letter) in the book. Like I said before, it's not what's missing that matters, it's the method! And, all you have to do is *read*! I haven't found anything this way yet, but it's a very good possibility!

Yes, page 35 of the companion book shows three pages from the Voynich Manuscript: pages 34,33,78 (with every other line whited out) and 88.
Great works are performed, not by strength, but by perseverance.

But, that page appears on P35 in the *companion book*, which is what Fenix was asking.
