    Default Etiquette in Posting...

Everyone has their own opinions on how the forums should work. I first joined tweleve when "A Treasure Trove" came out. The forum was really popular then. There were hundreds of people following that hunt, and the posts ran the gamut --- very secretive and conservative to putting it all out there.

I think it is a lot of fun when there are a lot of people working together and sharing ideas. That, to me, is what a forum is for in the first place. If you want to work on solving this alone, well, that is okay too. You don't need the forum. But what I really dislike are when there are people who lurk and never contribute, yet they take other people's ideas and contributions. I believe that is why there are so many people out there who do not want to share what they have found. In a sense, they too become lurkers. The whole essence of a forum is then lost.

So, in reality, a forum can never be perfect. If you have a group of people working together and all equally contributing, there will always be some lurker out there stealing ideas. You take that chance.

What I do know, and you can all see this by just looking back at posts in this hunt, is that when people start posting their ideas and what they have uncovered, discovered, solved, etc... activity picks up on the forum. More and more people start posting and sharing.

But I also know this; when I personally started to post things that I found, or when I started to share information, I was told by several different people, that I was posting too much. Was this a reminder of etiquette? Or were people just afraid that perhaps my sharing of information might enable someone else to get further ahead? I don't know. Since then, I haven't posted as much.

Is there some silent form of etiquette that states we should not post our findings? If so, then really, why bother with a forum at all?

Thoughts anyone??? I'm not trying to make any arguments here, I would just like to hear what other people think. Engineer brought up some good questions, and I would like to find out what other peoples' opinions are.

Domino, I too thought what Engineer thought...that you were asking us to post our findings so that you had a way to monitor us on your hunt. And yes, you did seem a bit crazy earlier. Especially when it was over some of the simple stuff in the hunt. But chill out. No one has their shovel ready yet. (At least I don't think so....)

I say we post and see what happens. I for one am not willing to buy a plane ticket, rent a car, and go to some far off location for 1000.00. However, I am willing to add input, pm and brainstorm and see who gets it. I say we post what we have and the lurkers can kiss my butt. Because we are cryptic in our posts as well, aren't we? We have all worked together in the past and our banter has solved hunts. So I sat post away and lets see what happens. The satisfaction of being a part of a solve is sometimes more rewarding than the solve itself.

And that being said I find it interesting that the type of soil shown in the Cowboy video is very similar to the area that Domino found the S.C. coin. The dryness and light are VERY similar!I don't think he would be so obvious as to give us longitude in a date...

I know j REALLY wants to find something. She's come close too many times. She wants this one. So we need to solve it and send her hunting.

I will be taking a trip hopefully this week. Would love to report finding something to a particular person.

It could be sour grapes from people irked that you posted what they also found but preferred to keep secret. Oh well, welcome to tweleve.
