pointing faeiries
Has anyone figured out if what the faeiries are pointing to at the beginning of the chapters is important? At first, I thought it was the outline of states, but then I thought it was the colors. I even thought the size of the box they were with was important. Now, I'm just confused......

Good question. I think we're still thinking about that one.

Don't get too hung up on just that. I find I do well if I write down a few notes and ideas, and move on to another area for a while.

They point a lot to acorns, especially koots and ffs. Could that somehow be the key to solving a cypher? It says "with name in hand" well most of what they have in hand is an acorn!

If all of the boxes that they adorn were the same size, I'd say we should layer them and it would indicate letters in the 5x5 grid from the first picture. But they're not.

Z F D B (W) S O T Y [TH]E T T R I

Double check this for me, but I think this is all the letters the Fairies are pointing to.

The W has no fairy, but is also the only special drop cap tha doesn't have one.

The THE is on a block, so the Fairy could be pointing to THE or just the E.

On page 2 we see the fairy pointing to that longs string of numbers.

on Page 41, instead of "W" I thought it might be "J" which appears as a wrinkle in her pj's but seems suspicious as a wrinkle.

On Page 51 I saw a fairy pointing to a puzzle piece which may have the letter "L" on it.

Those are my additions. Any one else know where all of this is pointing?

On page 41, could he be pointing through her to the S on the salt shaker?

Personally, I'm trying to apply what we learned in the nomenclature, with what the fairies are pointing to.
I think we can assume that the flower fariries won't try to trick us, so once we can "see" what they are pointing at, it should be straightforward.
The others are likely trying to trick us, according to the nomenclature.
I also am wondering what is meant by the "name in hand", perhaps it has something to do with the fact that the Kootenstupits and Pickensrooters are given multiple names in the nomenclature, could this the name they carry in their hands.

I separated the letters into groupings of fairies:

Flower Fairies: Z O I R I and T (or the whole word, 'THERE')

Kootenstoopits: D Y

Pickensrooters: F B S T and E (or the whole word, 'THE')

Do you think only some of these letters are important -- say forget about the Kootenstoopits since they don't do anything... or forget about the Pickensrooters since they are the naughtiest...?

All fairies like to mislead humans and halflings so why look to them at all? *sigh*

Just an idea about the pointing faeiries and please forgive me if this is somewhere else...

If you actually count the faeiries that are pointing on monogrammed letters, I count twelve...

My 2 cents on this is that they may be an overlay for the path in the park where the token is located. The faeiries point to the correct spot, which doesn't look like it would be far off the path (easy for everyone to get to)...

Hope it's not to simple...

Many of the pointing fairies make me think of semaphore flags. I'm only including the ones that pretty clearly look like they're flagging...others you could make a stretch but I wasn't convinced.

page/letter/noteworthy
2 - Z
20 - L - Arms are crossed from standard flagging position. Appears with "F" of chapter text. FL?
22 - S - Appears with "D" of chapter text. SD?
51 - Z - With puzzle piece, looks like yellow "T"
59 - H or 8 - With "Y" of chapter text.
61 - S - With puzzle piece, not sure what letter.
66 - R - With "T" of chapter text, also small "s" in scrollwork

Of the above, several are the same fairy, sometimes flipped on the horizontal. The fairy on p. 2 has a hat on, but not in the other pages.
p. 2, 22, 51, 59, 61

Besides the above flaggers, we have repeated fairies on p. 25 with "B" chapter text, p. 40 pointing to the button, and p. 63 with "THE" chapter text.

Another fairy repeats on p. 88 with "I" and p. 69 with "T", and p. 52 with "O".
