We're in Maine too!! And yes, Winter is definitely here! I'm hoping after the holiday to have some Hunt time too- and maybe someone will solve it and we'll finally know what happened to that blasted key!

Also a Mainer and trying to enjoy what winter is offering..... Yesterday a beautiful crystal garden with icicle trees and a skating rink for a parking lot. Today sunny and cool. Tomorrow a Christmas blizzard. As they say in Maine, if you don't like the weather, wait a minute! I'll dig into the book again after the new year. We're running out of time - somebody needs to solve this thing! Merry Christmas & happy & safe holidays to everyone.

    P. 11 is the key page, as previously mentioned. To add to the previous examples...

The border letter A points to the Apple.

Apple is for A ("A is for Apple")

In the ring of the key are

    Fish
    Apple
    Compass
    Eye
    Scale

This forms the acrostic FACES.(there are faces on this page and others)

    FACE S, PAEC FORTY SOUTH

    ....

The fish faces are over the words

GOLD FORTHE, where the E is the fourth E in th border sequence.

When you add the E that the key is pointing to

    GOLD FOR THEE.

    .....

Thus, this example includes anagram (because the FACES words were not in order, and neither are the border colored words, generally), acrostic, and wordplay in the border.
    Free is the best deal!

    "The Scarlet Cloud Approaches"
"Time is of ten a one-way street"
    ..........Go 5 X 5..........

What about, each one of the twelve zodiac symbols stand for a compass direction in degrees. For example: The fish stands for 330 degrees, the crab stands for 90 degrees and the scales stand for 180 degrees. Now how to use them is the question??

This is great since it aligns to the 1653 on the treasure chest in the Neptune image. Not sure you would need to take it as deep as you are though. For example, if you take a closer look at For The Gold, the left triangle does extend into the F in OF. This potentially yields, FOR THE GOLD F(key). Obviously very on brand given the repetition of 6/F/Key...at least that's how I choose to interpret.

FACES on our key page and FACE coded onto a closed treasure chest. It almost seems that FACES may unlock.
    Logic will break your heart......

    Default Clock faces...

Pretend that the watch/clock faces are actually compasses, with 12 being North, and the red second hands are the compass needles,...what would their respective bearings be? I'd say NNE for pg 11 and NNW for pg 40. But can anyone figure the number of the bearing? I don't know how to convert the degrees.

Oh I think you just multiply by 6, duh
    Pg 11 012
    Pg 40 342 or 348
