Yes, I admit I thought it was an E as well. I thought that folding might have been a part of the solution because of the fact of how poorly the book was made. Mine fell apart early on and I always had to keep reordering the pages. I kept thinking that it was made to fall apart on purpose. Plus the map the indian was holding was folded on the corner.

but we all saw the 3 without folding the page and the 7 was clear once you fold.

The problem was folding didn't solve anything, it just confused matters more. Once you see the 3 cross the fold and fill the entire band, and then the 7 do the same, you think that the rule is the valid numbers need to cross the fold and fill the entire band. So then there are yellow 1s all around the 7 that do both. Why would I ignore those as 1s and then go take some random yellow bars that only cross the fold but don't fill the entire band and aren't even the same freaking length? It makes no sense. And the folding only added a block or two to the 1s anyway. Adding a block to a yellow bar doesn't make it look any more like a 1 than it already did with the page unfolded. And then there were pages that didn't have any numbers at all, so it's not like you were forced into taking those bars as 1s, it could just be that there's no number there. It was pretty good up to that point, but that he definitely bungled it there. Somebody on mysteriouswritings actually posted about the folding, and he did it correctly, but didn't realize those random yellow bars were somehow supposed to be considered 1s. When the Master Riddle is solved and the folding thing is solved and people still can't solve it, that's indicative of a problem with the puzzle.

Plus the map the indian was holding was folded on the corner.
And the map with the red and yellow numbers on it was partially unfolded.

And I don't remember how Masquerade involved folding pages, so I don't understand how that was a clue.

This was posted here back in 2014. It wasn't the main Masquerade book, it was the newspaper clue that Kit put out after the puzzle went unsolved for a while.

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere, but perhaps the author could literally mean, "See Masquerade Hint". Kit Williams came out with a hint that was published in the Sunday Times. This hint was a line drawing of himself, holding a scroll, and surrounded by animals. To solve the hint, the scroll had to be folded and viewed in a mirror. And what resulted was a cryptic message that was meant to tell those doing the puzzles, that they had to look at the tallest fingers and the fattest toes. We know that this was one of the most important parts of solving Masquerade. A line drawn from the eyes of the person to the tallest finger, would result in pointing to a letter in the border. And a line drawn from the fattest toe from the person's eyes to the border would reveal a letter.

    Default master riddle?

It seems to me that solving the master riddle was not a requirement. All you had to do was figure out the DMS coordinates. I don't even know how you solve the master riddle, I cannot find the words NUMBERS or RIDDLE, only OPEN, HIDDEN, and TREASURE.

it didn't help that much. It was based on drawing lines from the red and yellow stars in the borders and seeing where they intersect. It's detailed on mysterious writings somewhere. I think one or two words were misspelled and it didn't really do much anyway
