    Default ATT Press Release - Ladybug

    Michael Stadther, author of Best Selling “A Treasure’s Trove,” Announces that a Seventh Token –-the Ladybug –Has Been Found near Staffordsville, KY --

    NEW CANAAN, CT – JULY 11, 2005 –A Treasure’s Trove, the fairy tale that has spawned a nationwide treasure hunt for $1 million in jewels, continues to draw families together to solve the book’s clues. Most recently, an Alabama family united to find the Ladybug token, redeemable for the Ladybug jewel appraised at $8,500. Susan Peplinski, 28, of Grant, Alabama, along with her three sisters and mother, traveled across state lines to find the Ladybug token hidden in Paintsville State Park, Kentucky.

    Peplinski’s interest in A Treasure’s Trove began when she read a magazine article about the adventurous tale, which prompted her to order the book as well as The Puzzle Book Companion. “I began working on various puzzles in February and before I knew it, my sisters were joining in to help me solve them,” said Peplinski. “We were all very into the puzzles and worked together on them.”

    Once Peplinski and her family succeeded in solving the Ladybug puzzle, they made a split-second decision to load up the car and travel seven hours to Kentucky, where they believed the Ladybug token was hidden. “It was completely spur-of-the-moment! Three of my sisters, my mother and I left on a Saturday evening and had to be back for work on Monday morning.” Once they reached the state park, it took them only an hour to find the token. “We were screaming and hugging each other, we couldn’t believe we found it!”

    Finding the Ladybug token is not the end of the road for Peplinski, however. “I’m still working on other puzzles,” she said.

    I guess this was posted in this forum as a mistake???

    They should correct the story;

    "Once Peplinski and her family succeeded in solving the Ladybug puzzle"

    to read ;

    "Once Peplinski .... found the solution to the ladybug puzzle on tweleve.org..."

    The snail, dragonfly, caterpillar, and butterfly's solution were all posted before the tokens were found. I have not seen any of these finders suggest seeing the solution on the web either

    Hunt...there ARE actually people out there who don't use the internet for things like this No really...don't laugh...it's true!

    I was one of them until this hunt, and only joined the forum for something to do. Never expected to be here 6+ months later, still posting.

    Well I will give them the benefit of the doubt. It is possible the finders did actually solve the puzzle on their own and coincedentally it happenned at the same time the solution was posted. Or they may have gotten it on the internet, but in fear of not being declared a winner they claimed they figured it out all on their own. Or they did tell MS and lawyers that they found solution on internet and were warned not to tell that to press. Or they did tell that to the press and the press ignored them.

    If I had found butterfly at Patton's Run I would have told them I was working on the puzzles and was close to the answer and was working with others online and we figured it out. That is a lie though, I just saw the solutions like many others did and then went to search. I just would not want MS to declare my find invalid. But if MS said he would not declare it invalid, then I would tell the truth. I don't look down on the finders who got it from posted solutions. It is fair game. That is what they get for posting it. The ladybug was easily accessible so it was fair. Using a stick is okay, now a shopvac that goes into special tools IMHO.

    My guess is that the finder answered all the reporters questions honestly, and the reporter took the liberty to write the article in a simple way that avoided the complexities of the story. I'd give her the benefit of the doubt.

    To be honest, I'd be quite disappointed if this turns out not to be the case (i.e. if she had a chance to acknowledge her friendly "online collaborator" and chose not too ), but my brief interactions with her make me believe she would have had the integrity to give proper credit if asked.

    I still wish she had shared more of her story with the eager readers on tweleve. It's a good story! If you're reading this susanp...it's not too late! Oh well...
