Exactly.

The more general point is summarized in The First Law of Cryptodynamics which is:

If you have enough letters you can anagram anything.

Which brings me to something interesting I would like to share with you.

Recall the seven sentences which I claimed brought me to both the solution to the puzzle as well as to the submission method. They are:

I dare this nation.
Look at the lost wisdom of the true creator.
Learn all of these ideas.
Erase part of hell’s evil and let it seep into its tomb.
Face this test to learn of a sure heart on a true road to heaven and to start on the path of life.
There you can forever see into the fire.

Initially, I selected the first letters of grammatically complete sentences and wound up with:

LIFT ELF.

This ultimately got me to the end but was not pretty. I later discovered that by moving the word Caduceus down to a new line I could get:

LIFT CLEF, which seemed to work much better.

The next step was to use the same strategy, generating another A by moving the phrase "a key" down to its own line, and getting:

CLIFF ET AL, at which point I freaked out about he who shall not be named.

Of course, one can work backwards from these letters and get

LIFT A CLEF,

which looks a little nicer than LIFT CLEF. (Perhaps this missing A is what she who shall not be named was alluding to in her recent post about missing vowels)

But I digress.

I ultimately found the submission method by judiciously fragmenting the phrases, and by looking at the last letters, so appropriate for the last step, I found:

SEND BY LETTER.

So this morning I decided to work backwards one more time, and looked at the 12 letters which started those phrases.

I got:

I
L
L
E
A
F
T
O
T
F
C
T.

After screwing around with it for a while, I crossed out the letters OF LIFE and was left with:

LATTCT.

Three judicious phrase changes latter (try it as an exercise!) I wound up with:

LATTICE OF LIFE.

Cool!

It (1) corresponds to DNA, one of the principal themes of the puzzle, but, best of all, (2) the initial letters are LOL!

Here's the punch line:

SEND BY LETTER has 12 letters.

LATTICE OF LIFE has 13 letters.

Back to Fibonacci and Pythagorean triples, we should be looking at ways to consolidate the sentences into five big ones.

We can.

We get:

I dare this nation: look at the lost wisdom of the true creator.
Learn all of these ideas: erase part of hell’s evil and let it seep into its tomb.
Face this test to learn of a sure heart on a true road to heaven and to start on the path of life.
Find the
Caduceus, a key: There you can forever see into the fire.

This is not a difficult anagram, and we now have a nice right triangle with the letters:

LATTICE OF LIFE

SEND BY LETTER

CLIFF

We get the message.

One last interesting possibility.

Maybe we were not supposed to be looking for a five letter word to complete the pythogorean triple, but a three and four letter word to generate a pythagorean quadruple. Perhaps she who shall not be named is once again correct, and CLEF was too much of a reach. We should have stayed with LIFT ELF, which works just fine and now lines up with the triple XXX on the bottom of the page next to the Warning page.

Then we get:

LIFT (4)

ELF (3)

LATTICE OF LIFE (13)

SEND BY LETTER (12)

3^2 + 4^2 + 12^2 = 13^2.

To be honest, I like this better, although getting rid of the C's made SS PRIORY pop out more.

Now of course, all of this may be a reflection of a phenomenon called Pareidolia, which he who shall not be named reminds us on his website refers to the observation that “the human mind has an equal capacity for pattern-making and self-deception” and “by manipulating number patterns, anagrams, and word associations… almost anything is possible.” This is explored in detail in the book The Quest for the Golden Hare by Bamber Gascoigne.

Any way you look at it, when you have too much letter-manipulating freedom, you can go on forever, which was my point in the first place.

In any case, while the few of us stalwarts remaining on this BB continue to wait for the Truth to Come, I thought this might be fun.

2. ## On second thought.

You have to lift the Cs.

Otherwise you won't get the nice consecutive P R I out of PERCEIVED.

Maybe the three sides of the triangle are:

A CLEF

SEND BY LETTER

LATTICE OF LIFE.

Simple, and a nice, 5,12,13 triple to boot.

Who knows.

No doubts all, actually.

I mailed a final version of the solution, carefully following the very specific submission instructions derived directly from it, to Priory last week. The solution was essentially the same as the version which went in four months ago, just cleaned up the SS PRIORY stuff a bit and described how to build a Merkabah using the letter pattern as a template.

The solution and the submission method are solid as a rock.

Think of this thread as some just-for-fun musings that have no direct bearing on the last steps of the puzzle. Specifically, the LATTICE OF LIFE business and whether the Key is LIFT CLEF or LIFT A CLEF aren't particularly important issues. On the other hand, SEND BY LETTER is probably very important.

At this point I'm finished with any serious puzzling and am just waiting for Priory to come back to life. I expect it will be a few months.

10. ## While we're waiting....

for The Truth to Come (isn't Duncan's month up?)

Here's a little challenge for you.

Let's say you wanted to be a professional hint-dropper on a bulletin board like this one and wanted a clever, but subtle allusion to your secret role built into your screen name?

Something that brings to mind an image that screams out "go this way."
