# Thread: Eurostar Quest Da Vinci Code treasure Hunt

1. Snowy, the cryptex forces you not to repeat numbers. So if you want to change a dial to say from "5" to "6" and you already use "6" elsewhere on the cryptex, when you turn the "5" knob, it will go straight to "7". So you have to change the other "6" first. It's tricky! It's probably cost me a few seconds, but I guess it's better than wasting a guess because you have two of the same number.

Wasn't happy with my timed solutions, so I decided to re-do them..I managed to complete the cryptex on level 1 in 3 attempts in 14.79 seconds

3. You can redo them? You mean didn't use all 3 "plays" the first time? Aww man, my best play on the first one was 3 tries, like 5 minutes or something. (i think). Oh well!!

4. ## Sliding Square puzzle

Any advice for solving the sliding blocks picture? I used to be great at the handheld versions of these things when I was a kid, but I have been tearing my hair out trying to make this one work. Don't know what I'm doing wrong. Dying to get to the next stage!

5. Nevermind, finally got the picture in place, whew! The keypad puzzle was tough tho, got 44 secs and 6 attempts at best.

6. Could anyone tell how the ranking of attempts/time is to be done? I mean, would they take fewest attempts first and then among those with the same number of attempts, rank by time or the other way around?

hard...just hard...

8. According to the rules, they take the fewest number of attempts, then use time to break ties.

About the 3x3 sliding block puzzle... After spending several hours on my puzzle, I found a website that explained how to solve them. First, you get the top 3 squares in place. From there on out, you never move those 3 again. Then you work on the two leftmost squares, and lastly the 4 remaining ones. (Or something like that). But it also said "some randomly generated 3x3 sliding block puzzles are IMPOSSIBLE to solve."

I think some of these were impossible. I spent several hours on a puzzle before reloading a couple times and getting a solvable one. So frustrating!

9. missing 1 Grand Master... any hints?

10. The last grand master caught me too.

Here's a hint: the last one is a lot more "Da Vinci Code"-specific.
