I did a bit of research on last year's hunt. I didn't find out how the teams were selected but supposedly they had to pay $150 or so as a team to get in. That is kind of a turn off.

The winning clue last year was this:
Crescendo and movement are the names of this game,
get carried away after your prize you claim.
A place of meeting for enjoyment of song,
spot your reflection and move quickly along.
Enter the side where a horn is golden,
and a stranger inside to you is beholden.
Be fair to your partner who on Sunday is free,
take a seat in no car and the diamond you’ll see

And it was found under a bench at Symphony Hall T Station on the green lline. The tip off is Crescendo which is a symphony term I believe. And a restaurant called Golden Horn is on the side of the station.

Just so we can get accustomed to the clues I posted it up.

I need help finding that page, singh . . . what is the exact address?

Still anagramming selectively picked letters, Brainal Leakage. Have found some interesting combos -- some of which could be sites in Boston -- but nothing for certain that would be supported by any or all the other anagrams. (After a certain point, anagrams can say just about anything, so I am looking for a way to keep them shorter than, say, 13 letters.)
I originally wanted to do "Where it all went wrong", but 5 days later, this topic nicely dove-tailed . . .

Well there you go. With a $150 buy-in and 200 slots, they've got their $25,000. Actually, they've got $30,000, which probably helps offset the cost of advertising. Pretty smart.

I would be willing to go in with people if the team could be more than two. But of course, if the team could be more than two, they reduce their chance of getting 200 teams to sign up. There's nothing preventing us from registering only two people but creating a team that's bigger, unless it's specifically in the rules that we can't do so. Although I'm not sure how they could do that, since you are allowed to do whatever you want with your money once you win it.

We'll have to see as more information becomes available.

Cat, I now think that the entry form does not contain hidden clues, since the way they control the number of entrants is by having a hefty buy-in.

Although I will add that, after reading that clue, my first thought was Symphony Hall, so I think I would have solved at least that puzzle.

Makes it more tempting to register.

Well 75 from each partner doesnt make it as bad. But it seems less fun knowing you bought in to it and you have something to lose.

I agree that it makes it less fun, but I understand why they do it.

A bit off topic, but it doesn't look like anyone is doing a Boston area Halloween Scavenger Hunt this year, which makes me all kinds of sad. Nothing beats a night-time, spooky, scavenger/treasure hunt.

    Sigh . . .

And just when I was having *such* fun with conspiracy theories

I think you're right. Part of me wants to buy in, but it does sort of reduce the fun. :P
