Default CT Post article about number of jewels and ineligible states

I went looking for the supposed article that talks about there being more jewels. I didn't find it, but did find this article that I thought was pretty interesting. Especially where I bolded the text.

    Book's challenge presents a puzzle
ROBIN WATSON Staff writer Deciphering the clues to treasures hidden around the country is only the first challenge for Connecticut residents: the second is getting around the law to claim the prizes. In response to a letter of inquiry by the Connecticut

This week, Stadther said the cash substitution values stated in the book's rules are only the initial offers he is willing to make and are negotiable. Stadther, a resident of Pound Ridge, N.Y., funded both the publication of the book and the jeweled pieces with his own money. According to biographical data on the book's Web site, Stadther and his wife founded two banking software companies that they subsequently sold.
The notices at the book signing may have been in response to Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal who, after being contacted by the Connecticut Post, questioned the ineligibility of Connecticut residents. Residents of Vermont, Maryland and North Dakota are also ineligible, according to the rules.

In a letter Blumenthal sent to Stadther's lawyers, he said, the eligibility requirements are inadequately disclosed to Connecticut consumers before they buy the book. The rules are listed in the back of the book. A representative from Blumenthal's office said Friday that they have received the information they requested and are currently reviewing it. I think he's [Blumenthal] worried that it's not prominently displayed on the book as being ineligible and our response to that is this is a fairy tale book. So, I think he just needs an education, I hope, Stadther said during the Danbury book signing. Elliott Burg, assistant attorney general in Vermont, said Monday the cost of the book may be the disqualifying factor that is preventing its state's residents from participating. Consumers cannot be required to pay anything as an entry fee to be eligible to be part of a contest, Burg said. During the book signing, Stadther told one family from the state, Because of state laws in Connecticut, you may not redeem the tokens. You may find the tokens, you may look for clues, residents of other states may redeem the tokens ...

A sales associate for Jewelry Designs said to a guest about the eligibility law, If you're smart enough to figure it [the puzzles] out, you're smart enough to get around [the law].

But, as the eligibility requirements caution, Finders may be required to execute an affidavit swearing to compliance with these eligibility requirements.
