Default The Definitive Stadther Interview ;D

The Tweleve Post: First off how I'd like to take a quick second to thank you for your time. We all truly appreciate it.
The Tweleve Post: so take you time here
The Tweleve Post: we can talk off record etc
The Tweleve Post: 'i want you to feel comfy
    The Tweleve Post: :P
    The Tweleve Post: k?

    Stadther: k

    The Tweleve Post: ok then
The Tweleve Post: What do you want engraved on your tombstone ?

    Stadther: my name is fine

The Tweleve Post: haha good answer.
The Tweleve Post: Besides Masquerade, what or who influenced your work on ATT?

Stadther: my wife was very supportive and friends tolerated me.

The Tweleve Post: Any other books, movies, etc.?

Stadther: nope, in fact avoided books and movies while i was working on it so i would be influenced.

    The Tweleve Post: well put
The Tweleve Post: do you speak any foreign languages?

Stadther: not really. studied french in high scholl and college.

The Tweleve Post: what was your favorite toy?

    Stadther: at what age?

    The Tweleve Post: child/adult

Stadther: now, a chess set (though im not sure that is a toy) and as a kid, i dont know if had any favorites. i can remember needing a bicycle, playing with marbles, kites, darts, ...

    The Tweleve Post: ok then.
The Tweleve Post: who is the hardest person NOT to tell your secrets to? (as far as ATT secrets go)

Stadther: i dont have any problem keeping the secrets.

The Tweleve Post: good answer ;D
The Tweleve Post: Who is your favorite band/musician?

Stadther: dont have any popular favorites, i mostly listen to classical music.

The Tweleve Post: Have a favorite period?

    Stadther: baroque

    The Tweleve Post: nice
The Tweleve Post: "Who has made the greatest impact on your life?

Stadther: several of my teachers from highschool. my math teacher, my english teacher and my social studies teacher. a scientist from NASA was helpful to me when i went to college.

    The Tweleve Post: thank you
The Tweleve Post: I'd like to switch gears and shoot you some user questions.

    Stadther: k

The Tweleve Post: JR ASKS--Please ask him for his educated guess on the total amount of combined time (months, years, decades) that all puzzle solvers world wide have spent on this treasure hunt already. Not actual outdoor token searches, but rather anti-social book and computer work.

The Tweleve Post: hard one lol
    The Tweleve Post: 1,000,000,000 hours?

Stadther: well, i can guess with a formula: say 300,000 books sold*2 people working on a book*40 hours in time on average=2,000,000 hours (you can plug your own number for hours spent)
    Stadther: actually about 2.4MM

    The Tweleve Post: well done!
The Tweleve Post: CHILLIJILLI ASKS-Some confusion exists among contestants. Should contestants be able to predetermine which jewelled insect they want to search for and then follow a path to find it, or will contestants be surprised at the end to discover which gem their token represents? Is this a contest of skill or a game of chance?

Stadther: they should know which token and jewel they are seraching for if they find the clues. and, this is a contest of skill.

    The Tweleve Post: ty
The Tweleve Post: Im interested to hear a detailed description of this
The Tweleve Post: TURKEYMONKEY ASKS--What was his solution to "Treasure"?
The Tweleve Post: I heard you had Tenn. Pass

Stadther: Treasure, hid words around illuminated letters in the shadow of the letter and you then decoded them with a decoder card later in the story. the final clue, if i recall correctly, was TN Pass Colorado. but, any of this can be wrong.

The Tweleve Post: of course ty
The Tweleve Post: ~Blank ASKS-What was your original intention in maknig this book, and do you think it's turned out the way you planned? If not, how is it different?

Stadther: my intention was to have fun making it and i hoped that other people would have fun, too. that was it. it seems to have succeeded past my wildest expectations. im mostly pleased with how families are doing it together.

    The Tweleve Post: thank you
The Tweleve Post: DOUBLECROSS ASKS-will we be pretty sure that we have solved a puzzle *before* we go and get the token?

Stadther: im not sure how to answer that one. as i said: the clues will take you to the location. however, i get emails from people who think they know exactly where it is and i cant understand how they came to that conclusion.

The Tweleve Post: Great. Just a few more here.
The Tweleve Post: LUCYNYMPH ASKS-How many Total clues in ATT?
Are the twelve puzzles increasingly difficult according to jewel (value)?
Does one need to be able to "write" in order to decipher a puzzle leading to a jewel in ATT, or read only?

Stadther: i cant say how many clues or parts of clues are in ATT.

i dont think any token is significantly harder to find than the others.

i cant answer the reading /writing question. in fact i dont really understand it.

The Tweleve Post: Ok. Lets say a foreign language student can read english but can't write it. Do they have the same chance of finding a token as an english writing person?

Stadther: this still doesnt make sense to me. if someone can read fluently, then they can write unless they have a disability. but, then again there are people who can add and subtract in their heads without paper. so, what can i say that is meaningful.
this is the type of question that sounds innocent on the surface but is trying to get additional information about how hard are the solutions to the clues.

The Tweleve Post: haha you are probably right mike. ill go on.
The Tweleve Post: last user question...
The Tweleve Post: SPRINCE ASKS-I would like to ask Mike about the math book that he helped write in High school. Did it have to do with codes? How would I go about getting a copy of the book.

Stadther: it was a math paper and it was presented at a NASA conference for highschool students. it was pretty simple. it just created matrices of numbers, like pascals triangles, and then created cubes with new numbers along the other planes. the theory analyzed how you could relate and derive new series by taking slices of the cube. sounds hard, but it was all just addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. and, i dont think it has any practical purpose.
Stadther: and, for what its worth, it doesnt have any relation to ATT.

The Tweleve Post: interesting and thank you
    The Tweleve Post: 2 more
The Tweleve Post: this one has a link id like you to look at.
    The Tweleve Post: http://thelincolnschool.com/class_ph...20Stadther.jpg

    Do you recognize this man?

    Stadther: yes, that me.

The Tweleve Post: lookin good ;D

    Stadther: times have changed.

    The Tweleve Post: hehe
The Tweleve Post: Ok one last question.
The Tweleve Post: "what's the best place on the internet to talk about ATT?"

    a.)tweleve.org

    b.)tweleve.org

    c.)all of the above

    The Tweleve Post: hahah
    The Tweleve Post: ;D

    Stadther: c

    The Tweleve Post: thank you@!
The Tweleve Post: you've been awesome. you have NO idea how much this means to us ( me personally as well).

    Stadther: np, my pleasure.

The Tweleve Post: one quick thing.
The Tweleve Post: If we could set up a chat that actually worked, would you venture to give a live discussion another shot?

    Stadther: sure

The Tweleve Post: great. You have been very responsive.
    The Tweleve Post: thank you.

    Stadther: bye

    The Tweleve Post: bye

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There you have it! I'm sorry if your question didn't get asked we were pressed for time. I'd like to thank Mr. Stadther again for his efforts. We plan to have a live chat as soon as we set up a stable system where you all can check it out.

Great job, Cthree! And, thank you, Mike!
Now we *know* that the puzzles predetermine which token we go after, and we'll know before we go. No surprises when we get 'there'... That's cool!

I'm looking forward to a live chat, if it's ever possible!

Try this out, it will definitely help you see MS's text better.

Place your mouse so that the 'cursor' is at the beginning of the sentance you want to read, then 'right' click your mouse and hold down the button and drag the cursor over the text and this will highlight the text so you can see it better. Just make sure to release the highlight before you go on to the next question or you'll be cutting and pasting.

    Hope this helps.

Not the definitive answer to my question I was hoping, but kind of what I was expecting.

Thanks for asking it though cthree (or whoever did)!
