## Some Ideas...

Hi
I spent A LOT of time working on the now defunct and ultimately disappointing Maranatha Puzzle as I'm sure many of you did. When it finally became clear that Maranatha was going to fold I picked up a copy of The Oracle. I have to say that this is a vastly superior puzzle. For starters you actually know what you are mean't to do! I've been working on this puzzle now for a few months. I feel I've made some progress but at the same time feel I'm missing something. I came here hoping to find some inspiration but sadly interest in this puzzle seems to have dried up. So here are a few of my ideas and theories about how to proceed with this puzzle. I have not investigated all my approaches so I thought by posting here I might get a few of you to dust it off and have another look

Overview
“Every picture tells a story every picture tells a lie”
I’m looking for errors…there seem to be a number of them in the text and in the pictures (see individual lists below)
I’m looking to locate a physical “token”. This may well be a disc like object hidden / buried in the UK. OR it may be a clock, sun dial or other object that is in plain sight. When the token is found I believe that there is some sort of message with it or inscribed on it that is used as a password into a hidden area of the website. (see Website clues)
The puzzle must describe how to locate the token within a very small area. How do you describe a small area? You could use…
Words…Like Masquerade a series of short sentences would be needed, but “a picture is worth 1000 words”. So a picture would be better.
A Postcode (There is a post code in the author’s address)
Grid Reference… a 10 digit grid reference would describe an area 1 metre square.
(Collins Map, see Moon)
Longitude and Latitude, this would seem from various clues to be the way to go and is what my current ideas are based on…

The Master Riddle
“Time is of the essence”
“Numbers spinning round”
I think that these clues are references to longitude and latitude lines. A number of other clues seem to point to this. (See The Worlds below)
“I am the final six, but you must find the four before in the order that I fix”
Who or what is the I?
Wilder could be the final six if it’s the author talking…
Oracle also has six letters.
A post code also has six characters and is the “final six” of an address.
The direction I’m currently exploring is longitude and latitude lines. So from other clues (see The Worlds) I think that 00 00 00 (Prime Meridian) is the final six and refers to the longitude. The rest of the puzzle is therefore to find the last four digits of the latitude, assuming that the first two are 51. (See Nile for reason why)

I’m looking for a four digit number. (The display in the GARSTT is also 4 digits)

Polaris Points to a Possible Solution.
Russia is central to the other images it’s also twice the size so is important. Russia is referred to as The Great Bear, but this is also the name of a constellation. Ursla Major, The Great Bear is also known as The Plough (there is a plough in Russia). This constellation is used to find Polaris, The North Star (The Oracle says “face the truth” which could mean face true north). Polaris was used by sailors to navigate the seas and was important for working out latitude! This all seems VERY relevant, especially when you consider the clue from the website “Navigation, navigation, navigation…etc”
The constellation itself appears at the bottom of the Cats drawing. Also it is created by four of the tower crosses of the church in Russia. The position of Polaris can then be drawn (5 times the length of the most angled side).

For Reference, The Picture Clues so far…

The Oracle
The Oracle of Delphi in history provided the answer to everything. So although The Oracle is the last picture in the book this I believe is the starting place. He tells us what to do.
“Loo into my Crystal Ball” led to flipping the image upside down and laying it over the picture of The Plague picture so that the … loo is in the Crystal ball.
“Everything is relative to you and me”. The picture is at the back of the book and can be imagined to be viewed through all the pages, relative to the reader, when the book is closed. All pictures (except Russia) are on the same side so all are in the same position relative to The Oracle. This, I think is the starting point for everything, together with his advice to have a “Holistic View” from the text. This suggests that all pictures are viewed as a whole.
He also says to “face the truth” True North…Polaris.

The Worlds
“Around the world…parallel”. “Rocks in a circular line”. “Ever decreasing circles”.This all seems to describe latitude lines.
The pictures of The Earth follow the path of the prime meridian around the planet.
If lines are drawn to connect all of the letter O’s (“many worlds”) in the frame a simple, elegant and symmetrical design appears. Lines in this design cross at the north and south poles. The design resembles a gem and this seems to be confirmed in the poem by “Earth, jewel in the crown”

The error in this picture seems to be that the UK is attached to Europe in the top left planet.

There are three stars in a line (“aligned”) directly above the North Pole in the top right world. Is one of these the North Star (see Polaris Points to a Possible Solution)

Other thoughts not fully explored.
The periodic table is referred to. This would allow numbers to be created from just one or two letters and vice versa. (See also Nile that appears to have a table with numbers / letters in it). The thought here is that everything can be created from the period table…so maybe the solution can too.

Moon
Errors are:
The hammer appears too big; the one actually used was a small geological hammer.
The shuttle is wrong for the time (1969).
Collins did not land on the moon. This might be a reference to Collins maps / atlas and suggest this company’s maps are used for the solution.
The red glowing button (Hal the computer from A Space Odyssey) on the astronaut’s suit seems to be wrong.

Astronaut’s left eye is visible. Left eyes are important, I think.

Other thoughts not fully explored.
The poem talks about ellipses. “Isn’t it amazing how neat it fits the frame” might suggest that an ellipse is drawn within the frame of the picture. “Size and distance, proportionally the same” may also be important in this context.

Cats
The error here seems to be that there are two cats in the box. In Schrödinger’s famous thought experiment there is only one. The rear cat is looking at something.

The Great Bear (Plough) constellation is visible at the bottom of the picture. (See Polaris Points to a Possible Solution)

As “gravity is the uncertainty” it appears we have to make it certain.

Other thoughts not yet explored.
There may be other constellations in the picture.

Nile
The poem mentions precession. This relates to constellations and how they move across the sky. (See Polaris Points to a Possible Solution)

The error seems to be the Dhow which is an Arabic boat so it out of place.

Orion is clearly visible and is referred to in the poem indicating the importance of constellations.

The little car I believe signals the end. It’s the point when you leave the puzzle and physically travel in the real world to locate the token.

There seem to be numbers all over this picture. The obvious one is the numbers / letters table that appears near the little car. I think this eventually gives the numbers needed to solve the puzzle. (BUT take care some of the numbers could be upside down or mirror images, because of how they are written e.g. 9, 6 or letter g, 4 as h etc.

Other numbers seem to be in the picture. Two giant 4’s in the sand (is this 44 as in the country code for the UK?) In front of the distant pyramid seems to be number 51 or maybe 15. 51 degrees latitude is the bulk of the UK that is located on The Prime Meridian.

There is a red fish on the cliff face…a red herring so take care all in this picture may not be as it seems!

Other thoughts not yet fully explored.
On the PDF version the right hand and bottom frames have been swaped???
Sun set should be one word, sunset. Does this mean set the sun here?

Greeks
The main errors here seem to be the use of an Olympic flag which wasn’t used until the 1900’s. Also the right angled triangle is wrong. It should be square root of 5 not 3.

The clue here is to BEWARE of Greeks bearing gifts. Many of the clues I’ve explored here like the triangle come to nothing…the message the Greek are here to trip me up!

Russia
The Great Bear, Plough is VERY important here. It can be created by four of the crosses on the towers. (See Polaris Points to a Possible Solution)

Other thoughts not fully explored.
Never look a fit horse in the mouth…there seems to be a fit horse here!
There is an obvious group of four stars in the upper right corner.
The letters TATA and upside down V T or I appear at the base of the towers could this be to do with the control letters VT?

Continued in the next post...

Rome
There are loads of clues here.
The wheel structure with radiating spokes…like a clock
The little men with spears pointing in various directions.
The main front Roman showing four fingers and pointing at the map with a stick not a sword. 4 O’Clock.
The ships with various angles in the oars and masts and in the shapes on their sterns.

Roma centred on the left eye of a Roman soldier.

All of the volcanoes, mountains and passes that have heights on the map. (All seem to check out and appear genuine). Some heights are a few metres out.
Monti Vettore stands for Vector or victor (winner) so I considered this. It has a height of 2478. But latitude can’t exceed 60 arc seconds so 78 is wrong. Might still be important!

In the text the boys leave the GARSTT but they want to keep it in SITE this is the wrong word, it should be sight. This would confirm that things need to be located on the site of the Roman picture.

Other thoughts that have not been fully explored.
There is a Roman Villa site at Greenwich.
There are faint blue lines that join the ships to land.
The rivers and roads could be important (less blue in the roman empire) could mean reducing the colours so that the reds or blues stand out more. Experimented a little with this but no conclusive results.

Jesus
“The defining moment in time”. 0 BC 0 AD
The main clue here seems to be to look at crosses intersections of drawn lines.
11 O’ clock seems important. Spear at 11 O’Clock and referred to in the poem.

Other thoughts not fully explored.
There is a ? at the end of “Who is this Holy man” on the PDF version
What’s the box with the button on the lower right hand corner?

The Plague / Fire London 1666
Main error is the Pied Piper he is in the wrong place, London not Hamlin.
His pipe confirms a 30 degree angle used in creating clocks.
The Loo being poured out of the window into the street. This fits into The Oracles Crystal Ball.

Other thoughts not fully explored
“The devil is in the details” 666?
Where are the kids looking ? Off to the “I” in the frame?
Red Herrings in the cobbles?
Number 7 seems to appear on one of the buildings (a red herring?)

Columbus
Again the number 11 comes up (October 11th and an 11 on the side of the ship)
The main error is the mountains…you don’t get snow capped mountain in the Bahamas!

Crew are pointing in various directions which indicate lines. This is also mentioned in the poem, the crew needing to “keep in line”

Other thoughts not fully explored
Flag on ship appears wrong.
The PDF version has only the words “Over the edge” on the right hand side “to fall” has been moved to the top line.

Well there are some of my thoughts so far...I hope it stimulates some of you to have another look.

Website Clues
The strange bar with the tick on it seems to signal how the instructions found on the token are to be entered. Seven words, first word one letter, second word five letters etc.

The clock stopped just before 12 O’Clock ???

Other Possible Clues…
GARSTT. This is an anagram of START G or STAR TG (GT). Or it may mean that if a “word” is generated it’s actually initials for something.

Einstein is an anagram of NINETIES.

The controls in the GARSTT are V and T. There’s a V & T in Gravity. In fact the letters V & T appear a few times in the frames.

"Mapping- Slowly Nowhere Becomes Somewhere."

Continuing to pursue the idea that the meridian line has something to do with the solution I discovered something very peculiar. There is a pubilc garden between Kidgate and Queens Street in Louth. Louth is a town in the UK EXACTLY on the meridian line. There is a strip in the ground very near a compass that marks the meridian line, the strip has the above inscription. It's part of the Louth Art Trail and was created in 2002 by Laurence Edwards a sulptor and Les Bicknel an artist WHO USES BOOKS as a medium for his art. Maybe Pete Wilder is Les? Interestingly there is a statue in nearby Kidgate Primary School called "Solution"...any ideas anyone?
Any thoughts at all...I feel very lonely here!

Here is a pic of another "Searching" by these guys, in front of St. James Church.

I think you may very well be on to something here. If not, these elements would have made for one hell of a puzzle.

See if any of the writings on his blogspot help...interesting stuff.

I'll see if I can find my book. Keep fighting the good fight...or hunting the good hunt.

Hi Truthfinder,

Thanks for sharing all your ideas on this hunt. I've never really managed to get started on the Oracle, although I must have had the book for a couple of years. I'd barely scratched the surface but you seem to have found loads of possible leads. When I get some time I will properly review your posts and see if they trigger any fresh ideas.

Best regards,
Xodiak

Hi Truthfinder,

The thing that worries me most about this hunt is that the first clue on the author’s website says that the puzzle is not directly logical. I like logical, not sure where to start with lateral thinking.

I think time is going to be very important in some way as the whole story is about being lost in time as well as space, and time is mentioned in some of the clues.

Your discovery on Many Worlds that lines cross at North and South poles is interesting, and all your suggestions on constellations and Polaris too. And also that there are some differences between the book and the PDF version.

I think the only thing that I have noticed that you don’t mention is that both 8th and 11th clues (Today of all days, time is of the essence) were released on a Good Friday. That can’t be a coincidence. Not sure how it helps but that surely must be what the author is directing us to.

Regards
Xodiak

Hi Xodiak
I had noticed the Good Friday connection but haven't managed to do much with it. I think that it means the "Jesus" picture is of particular importance and because time is of the essence that we are to derive a time from the picture. The spear points to 11 O'Clock AND eleven is mentioned in the poem as the time he was crucified. According to my research this is incorrect. It was more likely 6am according to bible scholars. So we have a lie...and we are looking for lies! So 11 O'Clock is important in some way.

Also I agreed with the True North idea we have to face the right direction. I think we find that using Polaris...possibly. It's also why I chose the name Truth Finder!!! I think solving what this means is the key to the puzzle.

Don't worry about the puzzle not being logical. I think it is very logical. My interpretation of that clue (lateral thinking) is that we are to draw straight lines. This is also backed up by the clue "When in Rome Do as the Romans do"...which is of course to build lovely straight roads! ALSO 11 O'Clock is two parallel straight lines..."Parallel worlds"

I'm very glad you have got back into the puzzle...it was feeling a bit lonely here!

All the best

T. F.

Hi TF

I've just bought the PDF version as that is going to be easier to transport around than the book, but I'm not too hopeful I'm going to make much progress. How did you get to "draw straight lines" from clue 1? I assume you are seeing "lateral thinking" as a hint at lines of latitude which makes a lot of sense. Can't believe I missed that before, but not sure how you've got to draw straight lines. I'd imagine latitude could be the entire clue in clue #1.

Good luck in finding the truth,
Xodiak
