    Default Creature group

Any theories as to what this means if anything?

My thought to this is that on page 34 there is a group of "six" flying west vs on page 103 the group of "six" is mirror imaged and flying east....

perhaps 6 are west of the Mississipi and 6 are east of the Mississippi

I agree that the pairings seemed meaningful.

Maybe it's reinforcing the text, where it describes their formation, as a puzzle. For instance, the BEE is on the SNAIL. Anagram the two words together; BASELINE

It's really interesting to see the different ways people see things!
P34 screamed 'ORDER' to me too, but in a different way:

    Coleoptera (beetles)
    Ladybug
    Firefly
Rhinoceros Beetle (as listed on ATT site)

    Lepidoptera (butterflies, moths)
    Butterfly
    Caterpillar

    Odonata (dragonflies, damselflies)
    Dragonfly

    Orthoptera (grasshoppers, crickets, etc.)
    Grasshopper

    Hymenoptera (ants, wasps, bees)
    Ant
Bumble Bee (as listed on ATT site)

    Gastropoda (slugs, snails)
    Snail

    Araneae (spiders)
    Spider

    Trochilidae
    Hummingbird

I learned a few things along the way (ants are in the same family as bees, and fireflies are beetles?), but I have no idea what to do with this, if anything...

For what it's worth, at the White Plains booksigning, MS pointed to this "decoration" as one of the types of images his assistant contributed to the book.

I, too, believe that the placement of the creatures refers to some sort of significant spacial ordering.

    Default Page 34 and 103

I am thinking that these are part of the #20 and #100 puzzle in the companion book. I haven't seen where this has been used in the book and know that is must apply somewhere (?).

I also think that the #48 puzzle has something to do with Page 93.

Just a thought to see what others think as there are other puzzles from the companion book that I haven't found in the book yet (not for want tof trying I might add).

And I thought doing my family tree research was time consuming!! Once you open the book, the hours just fly by!!

My thought is that all of the silhouettes may be related, the cistern (pg 10), the darklings, the creature group, the fairy group and the pg 44 upper left and pg 93 lower right. who knows, maybe none of them, well that's my 2 cents!

Based strictly on the picture, I'd move the spider/dragonfly couple up a line relative to the others... in fact, I would have 6 lines with:

    1.________________________ spider
    2. ________________________ dragonfly
    3. ____________ ant __________________________________ grasshopper
    4. Ladybug ____ butterfly __ _________ beetle _________ hummingbird
    5. ____________________ bee ___________ firefly
    6. ___________________ snail ________ caterpillar

well, now we have 2 ways to consider it. I agree with you on getting the spacing correct on a post... tedious!
