    Default Jack of Diamonds Grid

    Has anyone got anywhere with this large square below

    Code:
    PBTUYFJXAOJVWAOYZFKK
    GZKSKMIEOTOXEIJZGBPA
    BBFDSKCCLVELSAPBEDVJ
    UXESWQIOPTPTWNOMLNHB
    BEJZTMPSMZHUJRWQSDYD
    FRXFGYBGNYGCSQRIOVOL
    PNIWYETKFMHETVQZNWXG
    JUOZQXUVXGEUAXDIMIPY
    SBEERSLRESKJJTGIHQVV
    PTAFDHRCZGYLLVZMDMQD
    LTUNHAKUDSHDTKQVDZEO
    ROYCOXYCERSPZZYGHUOW
    NCIIWBEXQCRAHTNVIDBM
    RJWQQKTOABFGMBBNCUKG
    NSHPVPAJAWCGHFUPCDFR
    WZEILMZJVYAVQGIFFPQU
    LJHNEDRNERFKOSCITXXC
    DUTWFRXRQMYEHKEKAJGM
    NYKLANWMFILWZCLPUXMH
    LSCAHPZFXNGFQAZFEKGF

    I suppose it looks like another Vignere cipher but with a different keyword?
    Anyone like to save me some hardcore vignere analysis

    I tried tons of words before I found out about the star layover. I wrote them down so I'll find them and post them. Did you read the book yet?

    You mean other than the easy codewords in Red, Yellow and Blue?

    I found "BEER" ! lol

    looks like i might have to do the analysis.

    I thought you meant you were just going to try word after word....are you talking about letter frequency?

    Yes, I've had a look, nothing really jumps out.
    Using the method in the book the keyword length might be 9 but this is not strongly indicated. The trouble is there are only 3 three letter repeats.

    DFR=198 = 2*3*3*11
    FRX=244 = 2*2*61
    ERS=65 = 13*5

    and lots of two letter repeats with a fair amount of 3*3s

    Doing a letter frequency on every 9th letter of the grid gives a spread like this:
    09 = 1 0 0 3 6 3 3 2 2 2 2 0 1 2 1 3 2 0 2 2 1 1 1 2 1 2

    which is too flat. None of the other lengths look that promising.

    I will have to think of some other attacks -
    of course this assumes it is a vignere grid (and it is read left to right).
    The freq analysis across the whole grid is very flat which indicates it could be vignere.

    anyone made any progress?

    I haven't had any new ideas for any of the puzzles that I have left so I haven't worked on this much in the last few days. I do think there is something more to the Jack of Diamonds puzzle though....just not sure what.

    Default Observations

    It appears the letters on the grid are shaded based on whether there is a card or sign behind the grid (pretend the letters are like a stained glass window - you can see some of the items below) - Is this a reference to the window in the book?

    Also, the hand on the lower jack figure shows spread fingers, 3 and 1 grouping. Morse or polybius?

    Why the roots growing all over the sign? Whats up with that?
