    Default The map

If you join up the mouths of the blowing wind fairieswith lines you find that a lot of them pass through either the mountain peaks (the highest point on each that is in the centre of the square) or the ends of rivers (the sources i guess). I think there are too many hits for it to be a coincidence, but there are also a lot of misses. Does anyone have an idea where to take this next?

Being that they are astronomical maps, Orion, Hercules, and Ecliptics would be expected. But where is Tilted Bowsprit? That is not an astronomical term that I am familiar with.

    Yes i was suprised too,
theres a bloody big sailing boat in quite a few of them which has a tilted bowsprit - it isn't labelled but is clearly visible. Eg his Southern Scenographic

I wonder if all of these terms appear on Cellarius maps - astronomical and normal.
I'm still trying to find any useful reference to Utica Ridge.

A new map has been posted on Steven's blog as part of the trailer made for the possible film of the book. It is by Cellarius but is not the one in the book and neither can i connect it to our puzzle map. The map in the video is of Asia Minor or Turkey - Nineveh is not on it.
Can anyone link it to the puzzle ?

Old map by Cellarius -Asia Minor.

    Default Map and Cemetery

Not to change the subject, but has anyone looked at the Lancaster County Cemetery mentioned in the book? Here is a satellite view:

    Google Maps

Notice that it is roughly the same shape as the map on Page 3, and the St. Mary's part seems to correspond to the ocean part of the map. You have to rotate the Google map to get the same orientation, but Google Earth is much easier to navigate, if you have it.

I know all the clues are supposed to be in the book or on the web site, but does anybody think it is worth a trip to Lancaster to check out this cemetery? I live only about 45 minutes from there. I must admit, I have been wondering if there are really people named Winterbottom buried in the center of this cemetery.
