    A question for you:

Why do you keep coming back? Here, I mean.

Because I know I can post the crappiest poems and someone will see them in a way I didn't and appreciate them.
Because this is a place I can come and write my heart out without judgement.
Because there is always one person that just gets it.
    Because you are here!

In answer to your question, I've thought up a lot of cocktail party cleverness, Net, but the most honest reason is that I feel pretty good about myself here.

    Default Introvert 14: Laura's Retort

Finally, I arrived at Laura’s apartment building. The apartment building was in a relatively quiet neighborhood, vines covered the front stoop and of course there was a small cafe just outside the front entrance. The cafe was enclosed, having three tables with two chairs each. The style was middle eastern I guess. The menu was simple, your choice of three kinds of lightly sweet honey toasted buns and dark rich espresso, served up by the cafe owner. The owner was a polite woman with a huge set of teeth proudly displayed through a sincere smile and a lovely warm hello. Since the walk had been so enjoyable, I sat and had a cup of espresso to put my thoughts in some kind of logical order.

Events had a sequence, even if the time at which they had occurred made it seem as if they didn’t. Laura called this sequencing – patterning. If there is a pattern, then there is a logical sequence of events to which they corresponded. The sidebar was always that a pattern or sequence could be masked by an event, so one had to at least look.

It was quiet time, and like all quiet times, it passed quickly. I walked into the foyer where there was a five foot house plant containing a small tree house. In the tree house were various miniatures – all crystal. Nearby were the stairs and a small elevator. Normally, I take the stairs, but being pensive and not willing to upset that mood, I took the elevator up to the carpeted third floor. I walked around the corner to Apartment 123 – Laura’s. I pressed the buzzer, and waited.

The large black keyhole briefly turned green. I could feel Laura’s electronic eye shifting downward scanning to make sure it was me. Then with a soft barely audible click, the door was opened. Laura was standing behind a large ornate hand fan wearing, and not needing, anything more than her smile. Laura always seemed to know what I needed, well actually what we needed. And we needed that time for intimacy. That time of contact, touch. Sometimes, we’d talk afterwards and well although I’d feel pretty stupid, there was something human there – some validity that “Yes, you are human” I had read Walden – and had believed for a long time that being a hermit was perhaps man’s last claim to a valid humanity. But, humanity is a much bigger term than that which was once embedded in a small grotto. Being in the specie does not in and of itself define humanity. Sometimes when Laura and I embrace, I can reclaim my essential humanity, a sort of relatedness to others, a need as vital as air. Walden – yes, maybe I should revisit it.

We did not talk, as I had expected. We spoke in primal terms, in primal ways. As we groomed and caressed one another, in silence, there was freedom. I loved Laura, not just because she was a woman, but because she was Laura.

    My take on this place:

It can be as comfortable as your favorite neighborhood bar. When you want to join in, you are welcome. If you don't want to join in, you can sit at that virtual table in the corner over there, sip your beer and watch the party.

It is as receptive as a blank canvas. You want to get some anger out of your system? Bursting at the seams with raw emotion? Just came up with something clever? Post away! Unless you are offensive, the worst thing you will hear are the crickets chirping.

It can be as supportive as a [use your imagination!]. Feedback. Input. Comments. It's all there if you are brave enough to ask.

Sure, we don't need this place to write. You can do it in another internet forum or on a piece of paper that gets stapled to a telephone pole. You could even compose your writing in your head. But sharing words with others who enjoy some of the same things creates a sense of belonging. Writing can be addictive, but being part of a like-minded group is even more so.

    Default Imagining Salinger then

He starts again not ever falling asleep
In the green or aqua tent but being lifted
As if stars were less high than deep.
We’re never given nothing, only gifted.

Was it like that for Salinger, then, midway?
A manuscript suddenly become its paper?
Words holding silences; day by day,
The mountain’s work; by night, a taper

Lit to see the mutely rising tome
    Soften, bleed meaning into time.
Yes, we live forever. We live at home.
We leaf. We leave forever. We rhyme

    Words with passages,
    Doors with words.
